Title: Predator seat from parts unlimeted
Post by: drifter22 on May 07, 2011, 17:59:35 PM
Im interested in buying a new seat for my 1999 1500 drifter. I am leaning towards the predator seat. All the sites I have been to said that the seat is a match for my bike. I have yet to see any pics of a drifter with this seat on. If anyone has any pics of a predator seat on a 1999 drifter please let me know. Also, any suggestions for a new seat.

That seat will NOT fit a drifter. Send me the link where it says it will... it would be nice to get another source, but I seriously doubt the thing will fit. Nothing with a pillion that sits on the rear fender will ever work on the Drifter.

the Vulcan has a fixed fender attached to the frame. The drifter fender is attached to the swing arm and moves with the suspension. When this design was first introduced, the bike mags complained about it, but now that Harley has the "rocker" model softail out, it's ok and innovative.

I see that it says it will fit a drifter, but it won't if it is secured in anyway to the rear fender. And, there has to be some space between the fender and the rear pillion. Otherwise the fender will constantly smack the seat.

Honestly, I think they are wrong on the fitment. If you decide to give it a shot, let us know how it goes. The pics are only examples according to them, so perhaps the drifter version is built differently. You should be prepared to return it however.

The Parts Unlimited catalog shows that this seat for the Classic and Nomad, but has no mention of the Drifter. I believe it this is a misprint on the Custom Crusier site.

Man,Oh man ain't that the truth. Funny how when H/D does it first,..it's great!...if they do it second,..it's re-designed & improved.

If however the metrics do it first,..it's silly, dumb, unnecessary..& so-on
And of course if they do it second?.....well then it's copying H/D........LOL!!
