Title: Speedometer cable option
Post by: JMJ77 on April 27, 2023, 23:21:42 PM
Hi all,

As it seems to be quite common, my speedometer cable snapped too. Altought I have a spare OEM cable, I looked other cables that may fit. Many use Nomad cable, but it seems to be hard to find too, at least here in Finland. There is one listing on ebay for Kawasaki EN500/LTD454 speedocable, which says that it will fit VN Nomad too. So I thought that it will fit Drifter too.

So I ordered cable meant to EN500, similar to that ebay item, not oem but just cheap accessory item. And I confirm that it fits and work fine. It's about 3cm (1 and 3/16") longer than Drifter oem cable. Part number for oem EN500 cable is 54001-1113, those cables are easy to get at least here in Europe. Both ends of cable outer core are straight, where Drifter oem cable has small bends in both ends. And it seems that Drifter oem cable usually snaps at where those bends are.

So here is one option, if you snap speedocable again.

Cheers Jani

Excellent!
Thanks for posting a good replacement cable.
I'm on my second speedo cable and won't replace it with another Nomad part.

Thanks for the info. This will be useful to many. I will add this to the parts cross reference info we have and are redeveloping.

Cheers.
