Hi,
Is it necessary to drain the engine oil to remove the right crankcase cover. I have searched the mods section but could not find a reference . The manual says 'yes' , but I have a vague memory of not having done so when I fitted the 'Mean streak' clutch mod.
Thanks
yes....otherwise you're going to have oil all over your shop floor. :o Unless you want to lay the bike waaaaay over on the left side.... ;D
Well... I did a clutch mod where I didn't drain first. There is a mod in the mods section that says you don't have to drain. From my experience, you can do it, but you DO end up with some oil on the floor. Then you have to refill to make up for the lost oil, plus cleanup, etc. I don't think there is any really good reason not to drain.
This is the original mod writeup. If you are replacing the clutch spring, use the clutch parts (2004 and after -clutch spring and two holders) sold by KAW - Drifter Clutch Parts (https://www.vulcandrifterriders.com/clutchparts.html). There is no longer the need to use the washers and MS spring previously suggested by some riders. Kaw corrected the original problems in 2004 by beefing up the clutch spring and adding an additional holder.
