Title: Shinko Classic 240 tires- Any have experience with them?
Post by: Doc_V on April 29, 2011, 12:23:58 PM
Hello all,

New member here and hopefully soon to be new owner of a Drifter 1500. I was just curious if anyone has any experience with the Shinko Classic 240 tires, or Shinko tires in general? If so, what are your thoughts?

Thanks much!

P.S. Looking for a Drifter 1500 if anyone knows of any good deals around $3500-$4000 total, which would include any expenses to get it to Northern California as well. ... Cheers!

Good luck on finding a 1500 at that price with or without transport!

Shinko apparently bought the bike tire business from Yokohama tires (oem on Yamaha?? as I recall) ... from what I have heard, they are pretty good tires and less expensive than many others. Don't expect to get high mileage out of them... ie 5 or 6K seems to be the life expectancy. There was a recall on one model but that is resolved and didn't include the 240's I don't think.

The link shows only one size, mt 90 16... this is about a 5.00x16 and is suitable for older H-Ds, not a 1500 Drifter. You need a 150-80-16 for the rear of the Drifter, which translates to about a 6.50x16

There is a tire sizing page over on the website...

http://www.vulcandrifterriders.com/tiresizinginfo.html (http://www.vulcandrifterriders.com/tiresizinginfo.html)

Drifter 1500 tire sizes:
Front  - 130/90-16 67H
Rear   - 150/80-16 71H

Drifter 800:

Front - 130/90-16 BS
Rear  - 140/90-16 BS

Looks like the Shinko 777 has the correct sizes for the drifter... don't forget the tubes...

Thanks for the heads up. I'd talked to a shop who said you could get a way with running the same tire front and rear but wasn't sure how it'd effect handling. You certainly cant argue with the 777 pricing, then again, you pretty much can't argue with any Shinko pricing for that matter. Was hoping the 240 would work because its that classic look that really caught my eye. Does anyone know of any other tire mfg that produces a classic pattern with wide white wall?

Much thanks.

P.S. There are actually a couple 1500s in my area under $4k. Hoping to have a bike soon.
