Title: Front fork little leaks
Post by: moto on October 16, 2021, 12:43:30 PM
My Drifter left front fork little leak of oil, one or two drop at a day.

Whether it would be best to disassemble the entire front fork and replace all seals or is there an easier way for anyone to handle the leak.

Don't know about an "easier" way... rebuilding the forks and replacing the oil can easily be done in an hour or two. Personally I'd use as an opportunity to replace the seals and fork oil.  (due every two years).

Looks interesting and is cheap enough to try it out.

You could try a Sealmate or even make one yourself with a piece of plastic milk jug but personally I've never found they fixed anything.  In the case of a Drifter, by the time take enough stuff off to get to the seal with the tool, you might as well remove the forks and replace the seals.  I'd have fork bushings on hand to replace them too if necessary (but wouldn't replace them if there's no obvious wear).

If it works, fine, but the first problem I see is that the cowbells have to come off in order to access the sliders and seals. You might as well finish the job. You have to take the legs out anyway, so new seals and a change of oil would be in order at this time.
