Title: Lost key 1999 1500 Drifter
Post by: Wile E Wonka on July 14, 2021, 10:15:53 AM
Anyone have a successful experience with replacing a lost key, for a 1999 1500 Drifter?   It has been 21 years and I cannot find the key code thing that came with the bike.
Kawasaki says I have to replace the ignition switch (which is backordered).  This means I, also, have to replace the side cover (which means a totally separate key).  This will run into serious dollars.
Any advice will be truly appreciated.
Thanks,
Wile

I used to buy repoed cars at auction. There was always a locksmith on site who would cut keys to fit. It is amazing what these guys can do. Buy a Kawasaki key and get a mobile locksmith and he should be able to set you up in a short time.

Take the ign. lock off the bike and go to a locksmith. Not rocket science. One bolt and a plug on the back

Complete locksets for the 800 are still available, so there is a good chance that they are still available for the 1500.
