Any year drifter motor should fit.  I've also gathered from reading that the other Vulcan 1500s and maybe even the 1600s will fit in there.

Heck, even a small block 350 will fit, with custom motor mounts, LOL. ::)

Mechanic fit is one thing.  Electrics in another thing you may have to consider, e.g. ECU will be different between a DFI Classic and the Drifter - maybe not enough to make a difference though. - also Nomads (and maybe Classics ??) have dual alternators.

Will a 1997 Vulcan 1500C fit? It looks a little different than my 2001 1500.

Was the 97 classic fuel injected?   I was thinking they were carb'd, but not sure.    You may be able to find more info on this subject on the Vulcan forum --  I have never heard of anyone personally doing a Classic-Drifter motor transplant.    Sorry, hopefully someone else out there will have more info.
