Title: Sppedometer Light Out - 2003 Drifter 1500
Post by: Otterboy on May 15, 2019, 10:48:33 AM
Hi everyone -

I was riding last night, and all of a sudden, the light for the speedo went out.
Everything else seems to be functioning on the meter, except fo the light.

I looked in the service manual, but the is nothing specific about the speedo light other than a reference to an LED.

Has anyone had this issue, and what would be the remediation.

Thanks in advance -

Phillip

Simple light bulb burn out. Remove speedo head. 3 metric hex head screws on indicator plate. 1 screw holding cluster unit.  Push forward on unit to unhook unit from tank, note; it slips into a rubber grommet. Unplug cluster wiring.Remove bracket holding gauge in the unit. You'll see 2 bulb sockets. Replace both, always. Lube speedo cable with graphite cable lube before reassembling (maintenance). Make sure to ease unit hook (you'll see what I'm talking about) back into rubber grommeted hole. A little blue Loctite wouldn't hurt in reassembly. Wear sunglass when turning on ignition, you'll be blinded by your new illumination.

... a 2003 wouldn't have a speedo cable.    :)
