Title: Vibration
Post by: GIBBY on April 08, 2011, 08:30:01 AM
I recently purchased a 2003 Drifter 1500 and have put about 750 miles on her. I have put new tires on and had them balanced.
I seem to have a slight vibration if I shift into 5th gear before 65 mph indicated. Is this normal for the Drifter? I also have a 2003 Nomad and I do not experience this with the Nomad. Is there something "not right"?

How are the pipes mounted? I had a vibration @ 55 exactly in high gear, and at lower speeds, in the others that turned out to be the solid mounting of my cobra pipe. I fixed the problem by putting rubber mounts in the mounting tab from a W-650.

Thanks Troll, I have Roadhouse Dooley's that are solid mounted. It does seem to be generated from the left side of the bike and that does seem to be the weak link in the Roadhouse mount design. I will take a hard look at redesigning that mount. Anyone else with Roadhouse Dooley's experiencing the same phenomenon?

We have rubber mounted engines... when you hard mount pipes you are creating problems including increased vibration, cracked heads, etc.  There's info on the web site for rubber mounting - though not for duals.

Speakin'a vibration. I've only owned two Vulcans, the two i have now.

My Drifter is a 99 1500. My Nomad is a 00 1500FI.

My Drifter seems to be smoother as far as engine vibration is concerned? Not that the Nomad is rough ,just not as smooth.

Granted at this time the Nomad has approx 90,000 mi, where as the Drifter has only 12,000+. But the two seem to have been different all along.

Anyone else experienced this? heard of this? Not a concern, just curious.

Ron

May be a difference in motor mounts... there were some internal differences between Drifter and Nomad engines... some nomads had POG... drifters never had them. Some nomads were carb'd. All drifters are FI. etc.

Mine [Nomad] is FI & steel gear. I might get energetic & check the counter balancer. Like I said not really a concern just different enough to make wonder why??
