Well I finally crouched down to look at my back tire and realized it's bald, oops, so I ordered a new one and a tube, and then I was listening to my rear brake and it seemed like it was starting to grind so I look down there and sure enough the pads are gone as well. I think they're OE and I've got a little over 20k on the bike. I ordered sintered metal pads which is what I use on my other bike and they seem to be okay-- good stopping and don't tear up the rotors too much. What do you guys think?
I think that is what I use and will be fine...you will tell a big difference when you get those new ones on.
I always go with sintered if I can. People say they tear up the rotors but my experience has been not that bad, and, I don't really care. I want the improved stopping power - rotors can be replaced if they need to be.

I have the same view. There's nowt so important as tyres and brakes.

Remember that basic inspection and maintenance will save you money and could save your arse - or somebody else's arse.

Yes I did at that. It's funny because I never wear brake pads down to the bone, but on this bike for some reason I favor the rear brake a lot more. I figured I would have to do the front pads but when I inspected them they were still at like 60% so I said well okay I won't. Just the opposite on my other bike where I get most of my stopping power from the front brakes, which is normal.
On another subject I checked my maintenance records and realized I only got 10K out of that Dunflop rear tire which is pretty poor by any standard. I went with a Bridgestone this time let's see if we can do better than 10,000 before it's bald.

Same experience for me on my 1500. I get at least 2 sets of rears for every front set on the Drifter - on any other bike I've ever had, I'd get 5 front sets to one rear set. The rear brake on my Drifter does provide an unusual amount of stopping power so it sees lots of use.
Thanks for that feedback, that's what these forums are all about. Now I'm starting to theorize about Drifter rear braking if it's possibly related to the monoshock? I guess not if your 1500 which is not a monoshock has the same rear braking effect. Curious.
Yea, no mono shock on the 1500. My theory is it's because it's so heavy (and it's easy to stop on the that big brake pedal). For me, I also tend to use a lot of rear brake on the Drifter when slow speed manoeuvring - I don't tend to do that as much on lighter bikes.
