Title: Clutch Lever Pull...
Post by: BlackBlueMagoo on March 23, 2018, 17:12:44 PM
Replaced the Clutch and Spring with Barnett..the clutch was out (guess my brother cooked it) with 45K on the clock. It runs and shifts fine..but I have to release the Clutch Lever about 1/2 way of travel before the bike moves! On other cycles that I have owned, you could adjust the lever by the clutch cables..for travel and grab! The bikes a 99/1500J. I was wondering if this is normal,or is there some way to obtain faster clutch release with less lever pull? Thanks. Magoo.

How was the clutch spring on the old one -- they have a bad habit of wearing that spring out and it acts abnormally.

With the hydraulic clutch, make sure the air is all bled out -- replace the fluid with new and bleed it (it gets really cruddy) .  Can't adjust the cable for throw, like on a cable bike - but there is an adjustment on the clutch lever that will let it engage sooner or later - That's what I used to adjust my 1500 to get it to feel as close to the 800 as I could.  Still different.

That's a "feature" of the Drifter <g>. It is normal. The only real adjustment is the dial on the lever. It doesn't really change the break point, just moves the lever a bit. There is really nothing more you can do about it - assuming you don't have air in the system as GB indicates.
