Title: Red's new touch
Post by: CDNRatMan on February 09, 2018, 15:59:32 PM
So while waiting for Pearl's parts to be powder coated and covered I was playing with Red. I picked up one of those Fire & Steel air cleaner covers, and it had been powder coated black so not  big deal, mounted it on the bike.....but alas not liking the chrome bolt, wanted to change it......well I did but then the bolt is too short.....long story short that bolt is a bolt with a big ass head on it that is a royal pain to get out.......
But  bit of red paint...lol the same shade as Red......and as my learned fellow forum member 49 Reo suggested to wait a week or so then to rough sand it and add a coat of clear on top of it......

Did you touch up the lines with red paint? Really cool.

Well I tried to just paint over the lines but then when I tried to wipe the paint off the surface it did not come off so had to use thinner and then it got into the lines. was a real mess. So I used a really thin brush and a toothpick and just let the pain run into the groove. Up close not so nice but from the distance a normal person will see it fine, For a person with your OCD it has to be better.......
  How is Aunt Tracy doing?

She's happily decorating her new house. The Honey do list is several years long. ???
Hey, are the 1500 breather covers the same size as the 800 and does it stick out far?
My guess is not. So they are chrome then and powder coated.

Well good for her she deserves to be happy, she is such a sweet lady. Yes same size, they do not stick out as it is made to fit tight. Your guess is correct. They are chrome but look even better powder coated. I just bought another one today......

Well, it's a good thing we already know that "Red" is a nickname for your Drifter, LOL... :o

That cover looks good with the red lines, makes it pop.  I think it turned out good.  Was the cover black powerdercoated to start?  Can't remember.

If you don't like the quality of the red painting, you could clean it all off and then spray paint the red in.  We could think of several ways to keep the red off the black or clean it off afterwards....    I think it looks OK how it is, though....  Looks fine from here!

Sounds like a good idea....    Hey, that could probly double as a nice enclosed bike trailer, too....    Maybe I should buy a horse, LOL

Who said I didn't like it? Less chrome is better. If I can get 2 of them they will be powder coated black for sure! Not sure I would trailer my bike in a horse trailer. :P

Well I got you one at half price....now to find the other, and why is the bike in Port Perry? why not at Uncle Bob's?

Having an issue with the welder who said he would do my seat frame, now he is trying to back out on me......so the rest of the week will be spent trying to find someone who does small jobs for a small job fee......not a small job for a mining fee.........

The bike being in Port Perry might have something to do with Uncle Bob living in Port Perry. Ok, who needs their meds now eh? ::)

I will send you the new address soon, right now it's lot 81 in the New Amherst Subdivision which is a construction zone at the moment. It isn't on Google Earth or GPS as of yet.
