I was out riding today for a few hours and when I pulled up to the gas pumps I realized the little trip meter knob had dropped off of my odometer. that's a drag. That's basically my gas gauge. Anyways does anybody know where I can buy one of those? I did a quick check online and I don't see anything for a Kawasaki Vulcan 800. Thanks.

kind of gave me heartburn 30 bucks, but I passed on the screw because you're right it's just a 3mm and he wants too much money $17 including shipping. I'll go down to the local hardware store and come up with something.
If you've got any old electrical items lying around like a printer, scanner, boombox etc. you're bound to find an M3X8 inside. Just might save you a trip to the hardware store and having to buy a pack of 10 (Grrrr!)

LOL went to the local Fastenal store last year looking for a specific screw or bolt for the Drifter, I wanted to try something. Well I learned that the company policy is yes they have a storefront but unless you have a contractor's license they will not sell you anything, but, and it was a big BUT, you were going to buy a box of screws they would sell them to you and the small box as of 100.......yea right......
We've got this one hardware store chain around it's not Lowe's or Home Depot and they will actually let you buy one screw love those guys. Of course it might cost you three bucks for the one screw :-)
:o sorry for messing with your thread, but we also have a family owned hardware store here, I wanted the wrenches for doing a chain adjustment. So I went in and asked them for the ones I wanted and what deal could we come to....lol....the took the three I needed from a box of miscellaneous odds and socks of wrenches and pliers that had been part of a set or a return and I got the three of them for less then $8.00, so worth it to ask and to be nice to the people you deal with........

Sounds like a good time for me to put some 242 blue Loctite threadlocker on mine.
Yep or at least check it. I didn't think I had to go over every single nut and screw on my bike.
OK well I finally got the stupid thing in the mail 30 bucks for this little plastic thing >:( and I put it on there this time with thread locker. I can't imagine a reason to have to remove it unless of course it breaks. It almost went down into the abyss where I would've had to take the tank off to get it out but I managed to fetch it and get it on there.
It's awful the price on small little plastic thingys.....
I deal with it every day on cars- sometimes I can't believe it. The other day, working on a Mini Cooper- had to put a thermostat housing on it (plastic of course)... Well, a long water connector pipe was bad (about 1 1/2 diameter, 18" long), and the little teeny plastic tees that connect the rubber tubing from the crankcase back to the intake - there are 4 fittings, one for each horn on the intake) were broken. Well the pipe was around $85 --- should be a $15 pipe at best, but were talking BMW here, right? The little teeny tees (yes they are just little plastic approx 1/8" tees) are NOT available separately -- you have to buy (you guessed it) the entire intake manifold assembly. No kidding- but it was only about $50. Now how is a $15 plastic tube 85 , but a several-hundred-dollar intake manifold only $50????? No logic here....
Anyway, glad you got your gas gauge fixed, and now it looks good too- $30 a small price, then, I guess.
My 800 was missing the knob when I got it. I found a piece of black plastic tubing from my sprinkler drip system fit nice and tight and I added a knurled SS screw on the end. Hasn't come out yet. Cost me nothing.
