Title: Kickstand bolt hole slop
Post by: CousinVinnie on June 14, 2017, 22:13:51 PM
Ok everybody, I am back on and trying to solve a problem on Parsons Dav's 1500 Drifter:

Here's the skinny from Vinnie:  Parsons kickstand bolt hole has widened out and it causes the kickstand to slop around and that causes the spring to pop off.  This is a constant problem that we have repeatedly temp fixed by using tie-ties judiciously placed but it isn't solving the problem.

Does anybody have a permanent repair plan to fix the hole?

And does anyone know of another Kawasaki kickstand that will add lean angle to the bike to keep it from tipping over when a little high centered on the OEM stand?

I use a black Nomad stand but cant remember the )()) year.

HELP!

How you tackle this will depend what the damage looks like. Do you have a photo?

A temporary solution might be to find a shim / washer to slide in between the frame-lug and the  clevis to stop the prop-stand waggling about so much. If you do then give it a good greasing before you put it back together.

Option1 - I had a problem with the springs slipping off the lower knob and the side stand dropping down on to the road as I went round left handers.  I got a washer welded to the nipple on the end of the knob to replace the worn away material ($20), and I stopped leaning so much on left handers.

Option 2 -fill the hole completely with J.B. Weld, then drill it out to size - take care to make a good template so you can find the centre for drilling out first !

round bushing from the hardware store that correctly fits the bolt - then cut it off thin and use it to fill the over-sized hole.  Might need to grind out the hole more, if it's not big enough.

to repeat Pete:  Pics would be helpful.

Can also weld in the hole, or have someone do it, then grind it out smooth to the right size.

Think I would go with the welding..Like GB allowed...fill it, grind it smooth, then drill correct bolt size.
