I have my eye on a '99 Drifter 1500. Were there many changes in the 1500 from '99 through '05? Are parts generally interchangeable from one year 1500 to another? Is there much performance difference or any from year to year?
Can't say about performance, but the R model is quite different in many ways from the J model
Get the '99, if you want a more retro look you'll love it. The '99 and '00 have less chrome (blacked out), the fuel tank holds a bit less fuel. The performance is the same.
Duce, I'm thinking the reverse, actually I made up my mind, now that I have my 1500 99 Drifter I must have an 800. Also I am with our Florida Valkyrie peeps and we just landed tonight in Buena Vista, spending two weeks doing BV - Aspen - Ouray - Durango - Crested Butte and then back to BV. Could not bring Drifter as it is getting painted and the Valkyrie has plenty of storage, I see you live out here?
Hi,
Absolutely love the tour you have scheduled. My Wife and I did it the first time in 1980.
My place is about 35 miles south of Buena Vista on US HWY 285. There is always a hot pool game and a cold drink in my man cave. Give me a call if you get bored 719 221 3248.
Dang, we are in your territory! Thanks for the offer, however I doubt this schedule will give me the opportunity. I am the leader on this trip and I am basically herding cats. Moving a group in the correct direction is quite the deal sometimes. If you see three Valkyries, one custom stretched Harley (Mike is 6'8!) and a white wing, that be us.

getting ready to sell a very nice o3 1500
Deuce, I've never heard anything about being tuned differently, or any power differences. Gas tank is larger starting in 2001, and the speedo is different. Most of the rest of it is the cosmetic differences - black vs chrome. You can check out specs on the spec page:
