Title: Drilling kickstand foot
Post by: ranxerox on June 05, 2017, 16:16:29 PM
I put in a tool bag where my regulator was, but now I'm having trouble getting my kickstand down; there are no custom kickstands for the Vulcan models.  My thoughts are as follows:

1) buy a casting and bolt it to my kickstand foot to allow my foot to catch and pull down the kickstand, or
2) cast an object with nuts already embedded.

Either way, I would have to drill out 2 holes in the foot and put in a couple of flush mounting SS bolts from the bottom.

My question is would this hurt the kickstand?

I wouldn't be opposed to putting in some JB Weld to hold it all together.

I'm open to thoughts, ideas, alternatives...

Thank you!

I stopped on the side of a dirt road a few years ago and the kickstand sunk in - bike fell over in slow motion - no damage but I have been thinking someday I'm going to weld a bigger foot on it and maybe a hook to grab it with my foot easier. Kind of like what Harley has for their bikes.

Saw a lad who had one for his sport bike as it had a really narrow side stand. He also solved a problem I see with them. You have to bend over to pick it up, might be hard with the bike parked on it........well this young lad had it tied with a bright green string......and he dropped the foot lined it up and parked then he tied the string to the handlebars. Now I thought that was cool.....

go to hardware store and get a 4" metal electrical box cover, the flat ones. Place in your saddlebag. Put it down on soft ground, hot pavement, etc. sit your kickstand on it.

This post seems to have gotten way off point. Although all of the ideas contributed have been great.
I believe the main reason the OP was questioning if the kick stand could be drilled was to install a bolt or hook to aid in putting it down with his foot.

Yep.  But as CDNRatMan clearly illustrated, it can be done with no issues.

When I get the appliance cast, I'll post a picture.
