Hi guys,
I'm itching to also install a pair of 1958 Caddy taillights on my 99 drifter. I would like to make them a 3 way light though.
I've read a couple ways of of doing it with led conversion kits and using clear bulbs verses red..
What is the best way to get 1959 Caddy tails that will operate as running, stop and signal lights. Or at least running and turnsignals.
What color lenses do I use?
What wire's do I tap off?
What non led light bulbs do I use?
Any info or tips would be appreciated.
Once I get the information I will make a how to so all the info will be in one place.
Thanks,
Bill
GreenBarn can help you with this as he has done it on his 1500........
Thanks I'll pm him
Can't remember the color of the wires but if you remove your taillight you will see where the wires go. there will be a running light wire that goes to the running light for the tail light, I tapped into this for the running lights on the Caddies. Use connectors that are detachable so you can take it all apart when you need to. It is a little crowded in there but it can be done. You will also see which wires go to the signals for your blinkers. My Caddy lights are only 2 way not sure if you can get receptacles that are 3 way with the Caddy lights? The bulbs I used are dual filament 1057's? You can get these at any automotive store.
As far as the color, I went with amber lenses due to an article I read that stated the amber lights are safer then red due to confusion over whether or not you are braking or signalling.

That is why here in Italy is strictly forbidden to use red lenses as blinkers... ;)
Thanks Ron,
I'm going with the amber lights as this make sense.
There is a few kits i've been researching, there are 3 ways but requires converting over to leds.
For this year I might just go with the dual filaments as you suggest and due the running and signals.
The running lights would definitely keep the back of the bike lit.
One last thing, I soldered all my connections ;D
Ontargetbill: sort of on the same line but off at the same time...lol....I had someone tell me that the rear of my bike was pretty dark at night. My 800 had just the tail light, license plate light and no marker lights. Well that being said I found a plug and play LED tail light, made a vast difference, then I was lucky enough to acquire a set of front signal lights off a 1500 Drifter, so I stripped the guts from the housings and put them in my rear signal lights, added a third wire and now have rear marker lights on my 800, and it really lets people notice me .......so more lights to a point of course and you are visible to all road users.
May be of help... from the LINKS area...

Has anyone put together a parts list for amazon or does anyone sell a kit to do the job?
Thanks, Jason
