I remember someone saying they were told that the engine had to come out of the frame for a valve check. I just did my valve check for 60,000 kms. The seat has to come off, the tank has to come off, there is a couple of bolts that need to come out so you can move the rad hoses a bit. Of course the spark plug also has to come out. Attached is a picture of my bike with the valve covers off and they are not damaged or marked in any way. The covers are not hard to remove, albeit that the rear one leaves very little room to move it about .....but it will come out. I will be doing a detailed write up in the "Links" section under 800 engine section.

I really appreciate your efforts to let us know the how-to's.
I am no mechanic by any means, I never had any training in the field, this is all reading and watching and having the guiding hands of others like Troll and GreenBarn to guide me and answer my questions. The 800 is really an easy bike to tinker on. There is nothing to make you feel better to know that you were last hands on a set of nuts and bolts as you are riding down the highway. It is also really comforting to know if anything goes wrong with your 800 then you will be able to at least figure out what is wrong. Then figure out how to fix it.
for me, access to forum gurus is the key to DIY, that and Youtubes ;D
Ratman I am by no means trolling you as you've saved my ass numerous times without even a simple thank you from me. As modest as you are here you're a god when it comes to helping all of us out.
