Owned a 800 drifter (not sure of the age -all red.
Had issues with the bike. 13 motorcycles later I am back. At 70 young I am thinking about returning to biking after a year of not riding (agony).
Problem is ,the one I found is 800 miles away in Fl. I am in Va.
It is a 2003 with 13000 miles and nicely accessorized. Anything special to be concerned about with this particular model or year?
Thanking all in advance
ED
First, welcome to the forum Ed! I don't think there is anything in particular to be concerned about for the 2003 model year. As with any vehicle, present condition is key. I also found my '99 in Fla., flew down and rode it back (800 mi) with no issues other than a speedometer cable breaking. You wouldn't have that problem, as the 2003 is electronic. Good luck and keep us posted (pics if you do get the bike :)).
The 2003 Drifter 1500 had a recall on it. http://www.vulcandrifterriders.com/recalls.html You need a special oil filter for it as I recall, and they can be hard to find. Other then that, it's all good!
Looks like I made the deal. now to get her.
Thanks to all--tried to copy and paste a picture didn't work

fly down and ride her home..
That sounds like the plan--May be chilly coming back
Welcome. You can have a forum member get to their home in FL and then store it for you.....or better yet you can hire those people from that reality TV show in the US of A and they can ship it for you, and then we could get to see it on TV. Shipping Wars, that is the name of the show. You can trust them because it is on TV......lol.....
Pilgrim you go and pick it up for him your healthy and young. Ride it back for him.....lol.........
I'd go to FL and thoroughly check it out. Then if you like what you see, rent a trailer and haul it back. I wouldn't ride it home. You'd want to know if was mechanically safe and the oil was fresh.
I bought mine in Montreal and trailer-ed it home to the Toronto area not because I didn't want to ride it but I wasn't accustomed to the bike and didn't know if it was street worthy - it wasn't. It had a bald back tire which the previous owner said would pass the safety. Not likely.
