I fabricated a jockey shift for my drifter. Took one afternoon using a Vice, drill and a cutting wheel. simple easy to build and looks and works great. took some thickwall chrome tubing, 2 small brackets, a chrome strap. a threaded adjustable rod with clevits, a small clamp and a nuts and bolts. Take chrome rod and bend to the curvature of the gas tank while keeping the rest perfectly straight. find some thick flat steel and cut and drill to the shape shown in pics. you may decide to drill and extra hole for bracket on each side for stability. slide shift thru and determine where to cut to size. Tap an appropriate size thread for a bolt to hold bracket.[if you are using soft steel for the tubing you may be able to tap with a bolt, just go slow and straight,,,and replace with a new bolt after] and chrome strap. to the other end add rod. bend a short scrap of sheet metal aronud shifter and attach to rod. I used an old BMW shift knob pressed on to shifter..done! Go riding!

A bit more refined that yours but yours is a great at-home version.
I really like sitting at a signal in neutral and shifting into first by hand.
I have one of Teds as well but haven't installed it yet. Is there any drilling that needs to be done in the install?

I have one one my 1500.
There are 2 existing holes in the frame that you must enlarge these to fit the bolts. Pic attached.
Those shifter are awesome. They really fit the Drifter well. I have people come up at the gas station and say is that just for show. Thinking it's fake. I say use it all the time. Come in real handy all the time and makes it fun to play with when upshifting and down shifting. You amaze yourself on the convenience like when you get home and just pulled it back once for neutral without having to use your feet.
Ted Stubble shifter is perfect and for those that can fab your own, hats off to your skills.

I have a Ted shifter on my bike. I also suffer from really bad arthritis in my leg, and ankle, some days I do not feel comfortable balancing on one leg, so to stat off the shifter is the answer. But once on the go I am ok, but it is funny to watch people from the corner of your eye when you actually use it to shift.......
