Has anyone had trouble with installing a solo seat from Singh Saddleries?
We are unable to contact the company except via facebook messages - he is meant to be based in Nevada but we have no contact phone number and yes before anyone says it - yes we purchased through paypal - all the seats he has posted on his facebook page look pretty good so didnt expect an issue.
My partner's seat arrived today without instructions, no brackets and two soft metal bolts - My partner is furious - you cant mount the springs as they are straight and no angle bracket as been supplied - help please

Hello Donna. I have not installed one of these so cannot speak directly to it, but I've seen several posts on them, so I'll share the little bit of info I've gleaned...
Yes you need a bracket for the front to mount the seat to-- I had thought I had seen people say they requested this bracket as part of the seat, possibly for a little extra - as some folks would not need it. At the time I remember thinking it looked relatively simple and could be made from a piece of angle iron perhaps, when mounting the bike.
I don't remember how folks have mounted the springs. But if you look around on this forum, I'm sure there are some posts showing them.
I do recall several members being frustrated because it is somewhat hard to get in touch with Singh, but I do not remember ever hearing anyone that felt like they got "ripped off" or was unable to work out a resolution to any difficulties. So I hope that's the same for you.
Think Drifter 1 had some dealings with him and seemed to be able to reach him. Think his 800 had the Singh solo seat on it......

I have a Singh solo seat...
Sitting on the shelf waiting for this winter project work.
I installed it last winter and spent many hours over several days trying to get it right without success.
I installed it using the front sliding bracket that came with the seat.
Unfortunately, the design of the front bracket put the seat too far back for comfort even when slid all the way forward.
I experimented with bending the iron sliding front mount, but never got it right so I gave up and put the dual seat back on for the summer.
I will make all new mounts for it this winter for next summer riding.
The seat came with (4) springs, (2) long, and (2) short. I guess it is your choice of which to use?
It also came with a flat plate rear mount with 4 holes in it, (2) to bolt to the seat, and the others for the bolts that go through the springs.
There were (2) pieces of angle iron with holes in them to bolt the springs to the frame.
The front mount "U" piece that goes on the rear gas tank bolt, and the sliding mount that bolts to the front of the seat.
I ended up drilling new holes through the frame gusset in front of the shock mounts.

Here is one of the bolts after I tried to clean up the threads, notice the base of the bolt is worn around?
It looks like it was bolted on loosely to a mount and it wore down the bolt.

I "think" the front mount was straight and that put the seat back far enough for the rear spring mounts to work, but too far back for a comfortable riding position for me.
(I am 6'-4" tall, so not short arms) ???
So I bent the sliding mount into that shape to let the seat slide farther forward over the tank.

That left an ugly scene under the seat to cover up so I used CAD/CAM to design a cover for it.

I found a piece of plastic (Kydex I had on hand) to cut to size and heated it with a hot air gun to "shape" it on the bike:

When I got the seat farther forward I ran into the rear spring mount problem, the mounting holes were now too far back to use so I cut some aluminum angle and made a bracket to move the bottom of the springs forward:

I rode with it like that a few times but it just wasn't as ergonomically as comfortable as the stock seat so I took it off and put it on the shelf.
This winter I will make all new mounts, cut down the seat bolts (to 1/2" long) and weld new studs on them.
Then I will figure out exactly where I want the seat, and make mounts up so that I can put it there.
This is probably NOT what you wanted to read but it is my experience.
The seat is very nice, the fiberglass seat pan is great, the leather and hand stitching is beautiful.
But, the bolts built into the seat are terrible, low quality junk.
The included mounts are crude but work if you like where it puts the seated rider.
I do not consider this seat an easy "bolt on" project obviously. :-[

My Drifter came with a Singh solo seat already mounted. It was way too tall for me, the way it was mounted. I had to make some brackets to lower the height. They weren't pretty, but they worked. I ended up removing the solo seat after a while and put on the two up Corbin that also came with the bike. The Corbin gives a more comfortable ride. I rarely have any of my wives on the back, but I just keep the Corbin on for riding comfort. . . . . and who knows, I may find yet another wife along the way. :o I'm keeping the solo seat, as I'll eventually put that back on for something different.

I have the 2 up seat and have been toying with a spring solo seat for a while now, nothing in actual work all in my simple mind. This winter I have a limited amount of easy projects on the bike, so I am going to try one of my ideas out and see if works out for me. Thanks to the ideas of JagLite and OR_SeedMan I think I can come up with a decent idea. I do like the cover under the seat hiding the wiring and battery. That is really nice and seems easy enough if you have a heat gun and can take the time to heat and shape it.

CDNRatMan, I wouldn't give up "comfort" for the "look" for the type of riding that you do.
Old Drifter, please trust me I would never give up my 2 up seat. I really like the way it is now, I spent enough to get it conformed and set to my buttocks to change it. What I am after is a really simple and easy 4 bolts 2 up comes off, 3 bolts solo seat mounts up, it will be for around town, and for just because.
With the solo seat i'll be losing my travel trunk, my sissy bar, which I use on all my trips for my pack and my pack becomes my backrest, so a real lose there.
So the solo seat would be a round town thing.
I bought a Singh seat off Ebay. Had a little trouble figuring out the mount routine. Like most I drilled hole in the farm gusset, crafted a metal battery cover, and modified the front bracket. I chose to keep the seat set back. I always felt the two up seat was too far forward. I fashioned a filler piece to fill the gap. Loved the seat but currently back to the two up for me and my sweetie.
