Title: New Lid for an old Fart
Post by: CousinVinny on September 25, 2009, 08:53:37 AM
Ive been wearing my 28 year old Bell helmet and its been on my mind to get a new (safer) lid. I was surprised when I went online to see all the choices out there. I settled on a Scorpion EXO-100 half hat which features a nice retractable ½ shield. There was a favorable review over the Kawasaki forums so I went for it. I paid $110 with free 2 day shipping from helmetcity.com. They offer one no charge exchange for another size if it doesnt fit right, which is good because Im in between a medium and a large. It should arrive monday and I do a road test and report back here on how it performed, heres a pic. -Vinny

I have one just like that! It is the most comfortable helmet I have worn.

Thats good to hear Annie, for me the helmets I've worn over the years always seemed to be a compromise in one area or another, too heavy, wind buffeting, fogging up. etc. Im looking foward to taking this one for a ride. Thanks, Vinny

Helmet manufacturers, and ABATE both recommend every 2-5 years as the impact resistance of the foam core breaks down over time.

Well, Im pleased to say Im very satisfied with this helmet, and my new (1999) Drifter. The features such as the zip out ear lining and flip-down eyeshield work just as described. I cannot say enough good things about HelmetCity.com - The helmet I received had a size small liner in it, though I had ordered a medium size, they shipped out another right away, the 2nd one came with the zip-out ear lining. I called helmet city and they were very concerned that I was happy and refused to accept the spare liner back and said for me to keep it as a spare. I am glad I purchased this particular helmet, as it had all the things I wanted:; half helmet styling, hide-away eye sheild ( I wear glasses), ear liners and speaker pockets, all for $110 USD.  Five Stars ! -Vinny

Yep! best helmet I have ever worn too. The flip down visor has come in handy for me a couple of times. If I am out after dark and my sunglasses are too dark to use at night I can just take off the glasses and flip the shield down. My head doesn't itch when I have it on either. Just a comfortable lid all the way around!

Replacing every 3-4 years... not being anal... I'm that way about tires.

Lottsa evidence for replacing a lid frequently. Even though I sell Outlaw, Hawk, and other brands I get a hold of a good lid and keep it for a long time. I have two I wear now, one for the Goldwing and one for the Drifter. The Goldwing lid is fitted with mic and ear buds and has been modified in some other ways. I have several really old ones that are retired as well.
