Title: For the tire guru's
Post by: Mike O on July 12, 2016, 15:17:36 PM
Time for new tires.  I really like the way these tires look.  Can any of you folks confirm if the sizes will work on a 2001 drifter 1500.

Also
I have about 16,000 miles on the bike.  Should I consider changing the bearings due to the age?

Thanks in advance for you thoughts.

I do not have the Classic 240 on mine -- I have different Shinko tires.  I do not like them, and can't wait to wear them out and put on something else.   But a lot of other people have given great reviews on theirs (again, not the Classic 240) so don't go by just my review.

As far as size:
The front tire on the Drifter is supposed to be a 130/90-16.    That is equivalent to the MT-60-16 so it should fit the front.
(tire size chart ---> https://www.steelthundercc.com/tiresizes.html)

The back tire is a 150/80-16.  Looks like the Shinko only comes in one size- the MT-60.

I don't know first hand -- but I've been told straight tread tires like the 240 Classic tend to be bad about following road grooves etc, so you might want to consider that. Some of these guys that were riding longer than me can probably better address this.

Thank you.  They do not offer a fit for the rear tire!  Last tire change I went with were Bridgestone white walls that have performed well.   About 7,000 miles on them.  Not bad for a side car rig.

Thanks again!
