So...I thought I would update anyone who is interested that I have been communicating with Trall regarding bag mounts from Osprey. Since they no longer make them, I was able to order the right side 800 mount and the same right side mount for the 1500 from them (again thanks to Trall). I am going to take them over to a large fabricator near my work (I work with them quite a bit on custom ag research equipment) and get a price on making sets of each including powder-coating. I would like input from any interested parties as to what modifications, if any, you think would improve upon the current mounts....like maybe a 2 piece quick disconnect system (like the one on scootworks but without the massive amount of steel they use) or anything else...I will try to keep the costs down to a minimum, so keep that in mind on any ideas or mods.....
in the meantime...ride safe ;D

I have 02 & 06 800 driter . 02 scootworks saddlebag brackets , 06 osprey brackets . Both work very well . But osprey
easy to remove 2 bolts left , 2 bolts right side brackets & bags are off your bike . just as easy to install . ( note )
bolts must be very tight . mounting bolt holes are slot . heavy bags can drop sometimes .
scootworks bracket has 5 bolts each side to remove bracket & bags & very hard to aline to install . both work and look
very nice. you have to tweek each to what you want to work for you . me I like ospray best . ospray brackets are heaver

okay..so I got 2 bids on making the Osprey type saddlebag mounts for both the 800 and the 1500. The 1500 has a bend in to to go around the shock...costs more to make. So before I plunk down $$$ to get some made, I would like to know if there is any interest in either or both. I can sell the 800 style on here only for $100 plus shipping and the 1500 style for $125 plus shipping. Shipping would be UPS ground from zip 97303. I am going to get an 800 set made for myself anyway...it will take about 3 weeks. they will be powder coated in black just like the originals. buyers to supply their own hardware.
If I make extra and put them on ebay, they will be marked for $150 and $185 respectively.....
Let me know if anyone wants a set at the Vulcan Drift Riders discount....I will be placing the shop order early next week (because I want mine asap), so I would like to do the extras at the same time...

Unfortunately, I most likely will only be able to ship to the US and Canada. cost to other countries is prohibitive....to Italy it will be close to $200 US plus the cost of the mounts....you could probably have them made locally for cheaper than that....

Oh well, guess I have to change my plans...
ok..so here is an update...I have ordered a total of 5 sets for the 800 and 1 set for the 1500. They have told me about 2 weeks...I will post here as soon as they are done...as of right now, 3 sets are spoken for so that leaves 2 sets available for the 800 and one set available for the 1500. I am not having the cheap loop supports made for the 1500 that were being sold with it....they are not needed for attaching bags directly to the mounts....

They are needed to keep the lower parts of the bags from sagging onto the fenders over time. A simple solution could be to use a plastic cutting boards behind the bags, like this: http://www.vulcangadgets.com/files/f20_bag_support.html
You can even paint them so they don't stick out like a sore thumb.
Hey...cool idea...I like that a lot better than the weird offset loops that came with the 1500 mount....they don't even sit at the correct angle if you do use them (at least from what I can see)....I did notice that the overall size of the back mount for the 1500 is a little shorter from top to bottom than the 800 mount.....so I guess a larger bag could sag inward at the bottom over time.....the cutting board back-plate is great idea!

If you look at the pictures for the 800 mounts, you can see 2 holes on the skinny section. these bolt to the solo seat bracket on each side. Since they don't have the bend that accommodates the shock on the 1500, they are interchangeable for either side. I would suggest slightly longer bolts, though, as the bracket bolts are 30mm long and you should have at least a couple more mm in length for better bite on the threads due to the thickness of the metal mount. I tested a swap with the upper rear fender/bumper mounting bolts (they are 34mm) before I dropped off the one template at the machine shop. They worked great, but they are not chrome like the bracket bolts...they are stainless steel....I cannot find chrome flange bolts that are in the correct size (10x34mm or 10x35mm with 1.25 pitch), so I am just going to use the ones like I tested. if anyone else has an idea on that, let me know..

TY Seedman. One more question. What thickness is the metal and are they just flat? One looks bent.
they are 3/16th of an inch thick plus the powder coating.. the bent one is for the 1500 Drifter. it accommodates the rear shock and is side specific.

I'm happy to hear Seedman has picked up on these bag mounts. There is no reason to think his would be of any lesser quality than the previous manufacturer.
They are excellent quality and fit like a glove on my 800 and for the price, a true bargain ! I highly recommend them.
If you put a heat shield on the bottom of the right bag you can mount any brand bag within an inch of the exhaust pipe. It really doesn't get any better!

picked up the mounts this afternoon...gotta say, the powder coat paint is better than the originals by far....very pleased with how they turned out. as of right now, 4 sets of the 800 mounts are spoken for, which leaves 1 set available. I also have 2 sets for the 1500. I will use one of the original pieces on my set (not as nice paint), so that everyone else gets the better quality painted ones.....I will just have to touch it up a little.... :)
I am going to put the remaining sets in the classifieds on here. However, I will also be posting them on Ebay at $25.00 higher per set to help offset the Ebay fees.

I bought a pair of mounts for the 800 from Osprey. I couldn't get them mounted because the bolt holes were about 1/8 inch too far apart. I had to grind out the bolt holes before I could get them to fit.
mine mounted right up. could be the powder coating in the holes...
I swapped out the upper rear bumper/fender bolts with the rearmost bolt on each of the seat brackets...this gave me a better bite on getting the threads started (longer by 4mm) It was hard to hold the mount with the saddlebag on it and get it lined up properly, but once I started the longer rearmost bolt first, it went much smoother...
If anyone that purchased a set from me has any issue, please let me know so I can make the adjustment at the fabricator for any new sets going forward...
I recieved my mounts, i must say they are awesome, nice coating, sturdy material, very pleased... i am going to fit them this weekend. What size bolts do i need to cover the extra length?

the standard bolts are 30mm long...another 4-5mm would be better...that's why I swapped one out on each side with the upper rear fender/bumper bolts. i don't think you can swap them all out since the seat bracket bolts are not threaded all the way...they don't quite thread in all the way on the bottom fender/bumper mounts....but one on each side is better than none....I will eventually replace them with new chrome ones when I can find them. Chrome flanged bolts long enough are proving difficult to source, though..
I bought 4 stainless bolts from ProBolt part #LSSHX1035F and they are gorgeous. Not cheap, but they add a nice hitech look. Had to use my diegrinder to open up the slots on the mount so the bolts would go on. Ten minutes for both sides tops, and the flanged bolts cover it all perfectly. Bags are mounted too. Just too hot and sweaty to ride.
fyi...I have sold out of both the 800 and 1500 mounts. I am taking reservations (you just need to let me know that you want a set...no payment upfront required). when I have at least a couple of reservations, I will have the fabricator make some more...I have updated the classified adds to reflect the status....

Older thread but what a perfect solution to strengthen up the soft saddlebag that are not made real rigid. Cutting boards. Makes perfect sense PC.
One thought is why not just placed the cutting board after cutting to size on the inside of bag. Fixes same issue, no paint needed, and cleaner look on outside of bag and bike.
I just picked up a cheaper set coming from China to match my double seat and this mod will fix them up good.

Actually, that was what I did. I glued the cutting boards to the inside of the bags, then mounted them up.
when I mounted my River Road bags, I thought that they had too much flex at the top, causing them to sag a little, so I took them off, traced the outline on a piece of shower stall fiber board ()thin, lightweight and very strong. cut them out and inserted them in each bag (slight trimming needed here and there) Now there is no sag at all...
