Title: Left Side Cover for 99 Drifter 1500
Post by: woody9864 on March 08, 2011, 02:26:39 AM
My side panel has gone AWOL. Will any other Vulcan 1500 side panels fit? It is the keyed side. The right side I can find everywhere but the left side is tough. Anyone parting out a 99 ? Thanks

Thanks for the information but when I looked into it both online and down at Kawasaki they are different even for the same years. They look and fit differently. I ended up buying OEM for the 99 Drifter and it hurt but lesson learned. Only issue is the key style is completely different. Plus is it's still all Drifter.

Ah, after reading your question twice,  I think I misunderstood you. The side covers between different bike (vulcan) models are indeed different. The covers for different YEAR Drifter 1500's will fit.

The generic part number is 36001-1620, the characters after that is for color.

For example... the left side cover for 2005 is ebony 36001-1620-H8 and when you click on it and then the ? for the part number it gives you the fitment listing.

Model (6):
VN1500-J1 (Vulcan 1500 Drifter) (1999)
VN1500-J2 (Vulcan 1500 Drifter) (2000)
VN1500-R1 (Vulcan 1500 Drifter) (2001)
VN1500-R2 (Vulcan 1500 Drifter) (2002)
VN1500-R4 (Vulcan 1500 Drifter) (2004)
VN1500-R5 (Vulcan 1500 Drifter) (2005)

So, for others who read this... the side covers for one year DRIFTER will fit all other years.  (different MODEL vulcan side covers will not fit.)
