anyone have experience using non-ethanol 92 octane in their 800? my neighbor only runs it in his Ninja now and says it runs 100% better and increased his mileage by 30% ?? several stations sell it locally....I want to test it in mine, but would like other opinions first...

Your a lucky dog.....Around the corn belt here in Illinois, every station sells ethanol blended gas and to get pure gas I have to drive 30 min away if I want it. My only opinion is ethanol if were not subsidized by the tax payers in the millions of dollars would be bankrupt, that and numerous articles that it damages all engines to some degree. So far, I made the 30 min. drive when I am going that direction and fill 3- 5 gallon tanks up.....MPG, I have not tracked. I need to start......
I've run it in my bikes (at a buck more a gallon;-), but I'm looking for a station that sells non-ethanol 87 octane. My understanding is higher octane isn't really good for a motor unless it's high compression, so I run 87 octane even though it has the corn oil in it. Every second or third tankful I try to run Chevron through it, because of the fuel system cleaner they add.
I was wondering about half and half so I may split the difference in cost and boost the octane a little bit. It's around $3.45/gal for the ethanol premium and $2.45 for the 10% ethanol regular. I am riding tomorrow for about 80 miles round trip....I have 1/2 a tank right now, so I will top off with the premium and see how it goes.....
For those interested there are now web site and smartphone app like "pure gaz" to helps us locate ethanol free gaz in station around us.

Don't expect magic results. I run my 1500 on 89 as a compromise between regular that sometimes makes it ping and "premium" which isn't a whole lot better than the regular, but is WAY overpriced for a 2 point increase in "octane"
Not really looking for an increase in octane...much more interested in the results of reducing the ethanol content in the fuel....ethanol has so many bad properties when it comes to engines, I want to do whatever I can to reduce it's impact on my new toy... ;D

Type O- App called Pure Gas. It does work and would be handy when traveling. It's accurate, after I just downloaded it, it shows the one I go to being the nearest to me. Thanks for the heads up.
According to Mother Kaw, the 10% crapahol shouldn't have any detrimental effect on components. I have 105,000 mi on my 1500....The only thing I would worry about is leaving that garbage in the tank over the winter without treating it....
I use premium fuel in my Drifter 800,.. Previous yrs I ran regular...once I started using premium it NEVER RAN SO GOOD!....Also just found out Costco fuel has NO ethanol here in BC Canada....KEN.
So went on a charity ride yesterday, and once more listened to the guy under the bridge, and filled up with 89 at Canadian Tire gas bar, and they are not supposed to have more than 10% ethanol in the "mid grade" fuel, Halfway through the ride I need to fill up and used regular no name at a back roads gas station, bike ran fine, ran really smooth, so now to fuel up today I'll be going and getting midgrade at Canadian Tire once again.
Split a tank this weekend...had 2 gallons regular still left and topped off with 2 gal non-ethanol premium....after a few miles, the bike started running noticeably better...improved throttle response and smoother idle at stops in town. I have ordered the Dynojet kit for it and will re-jet to make improvements as well. I think the guy I bought it from did a good job of maintaining the appearance, but was a little lacking in the mechanical dept....so far, though, I am impressed with the difference the fuel has made..
a couple of glugs of Seafoam also helps to clean out the engine. I added 2 glugs to the oil and went for a nice ride to get it all over inside and then came home and did an oil and filter change. Not sure if it did anything but I think it did, and I add a couple glugs every spring to the first tank of fuel to just clean things out.

Back in fall when I first got my bike, I used the 92 octane non-ethanol for every tankful, but she was still not good on throttle response. I have aftermarket pipes (didn't really want them but oh well), and I had the feeling the carb needed rejetting. Sure enough, once I put the Dynojet in there she ran perfect. No problems at all on performance, off-idle throttle response, runs perfectly, and it really doesn't matter what I put in the tank now. The guys on this forum talked me through the rejetting (mostly Troll), and I watched about four Youtubes before tearing into it ;D. No big deal to do it and it made all the difference on my ride.
I have a source for non-corn-a-hol gas. Its about ten miles out of town. I have switched off between regular and expensive, corn-a-holl and non corn-a-hill and found very little difference in either performance of mileage. I know that ethanol gas has a shorted shelf life so I make sure I fill up with the good stuff before storing the bike for the winter.
put in the DynoJet kit for stock 800 yesterday afternoon.....WOW! what a difference...started right up...no choke...idles much better without any "misses"....nice and quick throttle response....makes all the difference in the world....and only took about an hour total time start to finish....looking forward to a nice ride around the hills today...
