IF YOU ARE JUST SEEING THIS... PC IS OKAY.
We received the following message from PC's wife - please say a prayer for our good friend and brother PC.
Not sure I"m doing this right but my husband philip carrell is in the hospital in critical care. A truck made an illegal u turn and hit him on his bike. Please let everyone know to keep him in your prayers. His foot has been severed and the put it back on in surgery and don't know if he will loose it. They are having trouble keeping him breathing so he is on a machine for that. His life hangs in the balance right now and I don't know if he is going to make it. For anyone wondering, I found this on PC's facebook page, an update from his mother, Bonnie Carrell. Hang in there, PC, we're still praying for a full recovery.
Oh my gosh, oh my gosh, oh my gosh. The response and responses on here concerning my son Phil Carrell's accident is nothing less than amazing!! What a wonderful family to be associated with-----we don't all know each other, but we all care about each other. One could not ask for better people to be associated with. Your hearts are in the right places.
NOW FOR PHIL'S UPDATE.
When Andy, Phil's younger brother, and I left to go to the hospital this morning, my car overheated into the red line in nothing flat. I had some 50-50 antifreeze and we put it in the overflow reservoir. When the car had cooled a bit, we continued to Anderson to pick up my husband at the office to continue on to the hospital in Indianapolis. I dropped my car off at Ralph's Auto repair there in Anderson on the way. When we got to the hospital there was confusion as to where Phil was located. We finally were taken to where he was but his wife was not there and Phil had not seen her all morning. Someone thought she might have gone home to get some fresh clothes as she has been staying overnight there at the hospital. Since they had no car there at the hospital, that was an unlikely reason for her being missing. Well, we finally found her in a special room set aside for family members on the floor that they were supposed to take Phil to, except none of us knew which floor he was supposed to go to so had no idea to look for her there. The nurses finally located her and we had the complete family together once again!
The purpose of Phil's surgery this morning was to open up the massive wound and make sure it was clean and looked good. The Drs. were extremely pleased with what they saw. The wound was clean, free of any infections, the outer skin is not dying off and neither is the layer underneath it. What this means, is that if the outer skin does die off in the healing process, the inside layer will be able to grow new replacement skin!! There is no negative reaction to the metal or screws used to mend his bones, the nerves respond to stimulation, and the blood flow is normal. Can you believe this???????? Remember, the foot was severed 3/4 of the way. Just imagine how many nerves, vessels, ligaments, tendons, bones, skin, and whatever else there is in there, needed to be reattached to working order by the Drs. They are amazed at the results and reactions of Phil's body to all of this. He continues to breath normally so no more tubes down his throat. They have taken him off of some of the meds that they had him on and the remaining ones are being well tolerated. There's just one that bothers Phil with itching and overheating, but he said that he'd put up with that just to get the results of the meds for less pain. Phil is eating normal food, and keeping the nursing personnel in laughter and happy moods. Guess that's all for tonight. It is 1am and I need to get some sleep. Will talk to you again soon. Bonnie
absolutely wonderful news! I still pray that the rest of his healing goes without too much pain. We all share the hope that he comes out on the other side brave and healthy.
Best news about anything I have heard, all day, all WEEK!!!

Great news - on the other thread in this forum, PC put on an update today:
http://www.vulcandrifterriders.com/forum/index.php?topic=42532.0
I thank you all for every prayer offered for me and my family. I am home and recovering from what I can only describe as "one heck of a week"!
My posts my be sporadic for a while as I recover, but if you'll still have me, even without a Drifter, I'll keep plaguing, I mean, showing up at the door to this place.
Welcome back PC :). It seems the Hospital kicked you out of the there pretty quick, thats good news I guess or your insurance isn't too good LOL. I am glad your on your next phase of recovery. It's a hard, tough road but it will get better in time. Kick back watch some Chasing Cars series with Wayne Carini, and get better. I want his job. God speed and God Bless You........
Yeah, I was checking out of the hospital just 6 days after the accident. The doc's can't explain it, but I can; God was protecting me and is healing me quickly.
8) even without a Drifter we will keep you.......seems we are part of a family and can not throw you out because....so just drop in and give your wisdom and help. Take care.
Wonderful news to read.

YEP!!
Sorry to keep you all waiting on the update from this afternoon's doctors appointment. I was just so worn out after it was over that I crawled into bed and crashed for a while.
God is hearing and answering our prayers though!
There is some very slight skin dying at the ends of the wound, but it's very slight and the doc said it's surrounded by healthy pink tissue, so he expects that the pink tissue will regrow and take over the dead stuff. There also appears to be no signs of infection. These are the two main things the doc's are concerned with right now, as too much dead tissue means no regrowth, and infection is just a bad deal all around.
I go back next Thursday for another looksee, and this time they'll probably remove the stitches. That should be a party!
They gave me a new bandage too. The old one guarded it well, but it was heavy, and my muscles in that leg are all torn, so it was very hard to maneuver. They gave me a new lighter bandage this time that I can move pretty well in, but it doesn't offer quite as much protection. It's all good though, because we still have Winndy's (my wife) immobilizers for her leg surgery's a few years back and they are made of rubberized foam with metal stiffeners down the sides and Velcro to hold them closed. When I need the extra protection, I'll just wear that.
If you're the curious sort, who has a strong stomach, and you want see what it looks like to have 90% of your foot reattached, here's a link to a few pics (WARNING: GRAPHIC PICS!!!); http://s83.photobucket.com/user/pcarrell/library/My%20Leg%206-22-16?sort=3&page=1
Anyways, thanks for all of the prayers and support! If you want to help, there are 3 things I'd ask. #1. Pray for me! Nothing is as powerful as God's power! #2. Consider helping financially with the monster doctor bills that are coming: https://www.gofundme.com/2aaqzjrx #3. Share that gofundme link and help spread the word.
Thank You All!!!
As surely as when Christ touched the diseased and healed them, so has He blessed you.
And I found you a convertible so you can still have the wind in your hair.....

I rode shotgun on the stage coaches PC built....
That foot looks pretty good.... for being cut off. Now we can call you FrankenPC :o
Glad to hear you are healing well. May God continue to bless you in your healing and recovery. Everything happens for a reason.

now that took guts.....and not because of the bandido's, either........ :D
:( thought you were talking about his foot and not his building talent, but then he did learn a lot when he was building the ark with Noah and the boys, he did get a lot of sawing and hammering in then......
.....and I'm taking a pretty good hammering now too!
That's some nice work the surgeons did PC. Amazing what they can do nowadays.
Pastor Dude we do not want you to be feeling left out, or to just lay there and watch TV and eat bonbons. We want you to have something to keep the blood moving, give you something to look forward to, I can post some bath suit pictures for you to liven up the day.......

::) ok so send it to PC and 49 because he deserves it also.......
Look, I already died on the table several times last week. Do I really need to go through that again?
For those interested, I went to see Nadine today for the first time since the accident. It was very sad.
At first, it looks repairable, but on closer inspection it can be seen that the frame is bent in several places and the radiator got into jug 1, though it doesn't look bad, so the motor might need gone through. Unfortunately, it just doesn't make sense to keep her and rebuild. Since the only Drifter specific parts that are unharmed are at the rear of the bike, it doesn't even make sense to part her out, for me.
If someone wanted to pay the impound fee's ($30 a day) to get her out and buy her from the insurance company (don't have that number yet), then maybe they could have a decent parts bike, since the electronic brain and many other parts are good. You'd have to come pick her up, but I can make sure that she's available if someone needs her, but for me, she's dead. If you want her, speak fast, because this is happening fast. I can get you numbers soon so you could make a decision. I won't charge anything from my end, just whatever it takes to get her out of impound and I'll sign the title over. I'd be nice to know she was at least an organ donor.......
Here's the sad, sad pics......

Hi PC I don't post much as I am a wannabe without having found my bike yet. Just wanted to say I'm really sorry about your foot and your bike. I've been in an accident or two myself and I know the pain of seeing your ride laying down in pieces... but good to hear that you are doing much better! Prayers for you brother - you will find another bike and great that you are recovering well. Blessings to you and your family. Tim
PC, it's very sad to see your deuce layin' that way...
BUT, first of all, you're still alive and SAFE... and, after all, you could always buy a new one soon or later...
Best wishes, bud!
Have somebody who KNOWS WHAT THEY ARE DOING check the frame for damage. If it's ok, or can be straitened, then just fix it! . It isn't like they are making more of these...
Yeah, the frame is obviously tweaked in several places, so she's a goner.
:o well I for one think that we can all count the stars we were not involved and you have lived to tell us what was the word you used when you realize that you were going to make contact with the truck.
No time for words! My skid mark was only 20 feet long!
Chief, you might want to re title this thread, because I am sure that not many of us have seen a good looking picture of PC ......how about Upgraded and looking eh ok........
20 foot long skid mark.......well ok no words then but later.....
They tell me that my first word after my first surgery was "Nadine?".
PC, I would take you up on that offer, but going out of town this next week, and no time to get out there. By the time I get "time" to get over there and get her out of the clink, I'm afraid the storage bill alone will be more than the parts are worth....
So how are you hanging in there? Are you walking yet? Just wondering how the leg is mending.
I see one of the frame bends in the pics. Man, you must have really gotten whalloped by that truck. That guy from Wheels Through Time does frame straightening, but it would probably be pretty expensive to do.. . . . and to do it right.
Yeah, see that's the thing.....it would have to happen before long or it wouldn't be worth it probably.
As for walking, no. The doc's say no walking for 6 months, then I'll have to learn to walk again. For now, no weight at all for several months.

No time for words! My skid mark was only 20 feet long!
Was that skid mark on the ground or in your shorts? :o
No time for one in the shorts! Besides, my wife could be proud of me because the undies they cut off of me that day happened to be brand new ones!
I happened to be going by the site of the accident with my camera today, so I thought you'd all like to see just exactly how long my skid mark was (about 15 feet or so) and how long I had to react to this truck that was suddenly blocked my path. Remember, I was doing 50mph and the truck was basically a brick wall since it was moving 90 degrees from my direction.
This skid mark is now 5 weeks old, has been through several gully washers, and loads of traffic as it's on a main drag, and yet it's still quite visible in the middle of the lane.
Geee, I can feel the shock you've got at that time...but I won't ever be able to feel the pain...
There's one thing I can not stand about traffic: stupid people doing STUPID manouvres in front of me!!!
I wish I could have a teleporter on ma-deuce, just to be able to avoid them... or maybe could be better a bazooka! ;)
A teleporter would have been most handy to have that day!
I don't know you man, an i am very new to VDR. I've taken a few hard spills and that one is worse than anything i've had to endure. Sucks it happened to you; an really glad it hasn't happened to me! I hit a not so bright woman in SLC, UT. She did a ballistic left turn with no blinker right in front of me. We both were in the opposing inside lanes of a four lane street in the downtownish area. Like you i tried my best to avoid the unavoidable. To no avail !!! Five witness' said that me and the bike did 3, yes 3 flips before hitting the pavement. That bike had much the same damage as yours. The datsun station wagon that chick was driving flipped over on it's side an spun about 130 degrees. That was the worst accident of my riding career. Permanent torn left rotator cup, fractured left clavicle, some minor road rash, and thanks to The Lord my God i was wearing a half helmet that almost always collects dust!
That sounds like quite a ride there Ironworking. Glad it wasn't worse!
8) PC buddy.......understand that GB was there to help give you some peace of mind prior to his arrival in Sparta. Now before you hear from them liars that will try to deframe my wonderful person, I was not asked to leave the pool area, I was not asked to leave the motel, nor was I at any time in police custody. However John did enough tormenting me that I did not miss you in the least bit. Now I am heading west and will be thinking of sending you some pictures to cheer you up......
My doctor says I should be resting and recuperating. I have a feeling that those pics you want to send me will not allow for any rest at all, so I'll politely decline. ;)

Say anyone of you that were there have those pics of Ratman in the pool?
So glad to hear of your recovery PC! I know there's still more recovery to come, but there's Grace for that as well. Out of curiosity (it hasn't killed me...yet), what kind of boot were you wearing? I doubt that would make any difference in a wreck like yours, but thought I would ask.

I was wearing my SAS walking shoes (shame on me), but my leg was severed mostly above my usual boots, so it wouldn't have mattered really I don't think.
Ratman's at it again! Keep him up north!
>:( PC you have to know that, that fella is far to skinny to be me.......If I jumped in the pool like that the water would all vanish.
Thought maybe you'd been dieting.
Figured this might be about the best place to do this. I have Nadine home and moved from the pickup into the trailer. On a side note, I almost sold the trailer recently, but now am glad I didn't as I have a good place out of the weather to store Nadine & parts. Unfortunately, I didn't think to get pictures when PC and I met up and were talking at the salvage yard in Indianapolis.
Going through the bike so far, it's obvious PC had a guardian angel watching him that day in June. See the picture of the fuel injector/mister sheared off too see how violent the collision was (not to mention the mangled front end). To have the presence of mind to jump off just prior to impact...
When she was still on the back of the pickup, I charged the battery for a few minutes, then...she started! I only let Nadine run for a second or two before shutting her off, but i wanted to see if it would still run. I was impressed. I know someone mentioned above that the frame was bent, but I haven't been able to find where yet. I'm wondering if it's going to be worth a new radiator, front forks/front end, a salvage title and some loving to put her back on the road. So until I decide what exactly I am going to do with the rest - so far I've put the seat and saddlebags on my bike, and plan to put the windshield and rear trunk on once I have new brackets made for the trunk at least - I think she will stay in the trailer.
And the cordless driver in the picture is intentional - get one if you don't have one! I purchased it today to help with loosening some of the rusted on & loctite secured bolts, and don't know how I did without one of those for so long. It makes it so easy. ;D
was wondering how long it was going to take to get her off the trailer........ ::)
I thought the frame was tweeked in the front down tubes? Thought the steering yoke was cocked at an angle slightly.
BTW, hows the Mrs. like her new seat?
Also, they sent me back the title. Said it was old enough that they didn't need it after all. I'll send it to you.
....and yes, it was quite the wild ride!
P.S. The cordless drill in the picture is an impact driver. I should have mentioned that, as I'm not sure you can tell in the pic, and its far and above what a standard drill/driver is.
ok so St. Mrs Indian_fan lets you take her first born on a road trip to pick up a damaged motorcycle for a over night trip, to met someone you only met on the internet and who could be a serial something, she also lets you purchase an impact driver to work on this massively damaged motorcycle. Boy have you got a St. for a spouse she must be a lovely person. Now you and the boys have winter project to work on........
I already had the rechargeable batteries for the weed whacker, so just needed to purchase the bare tool. Well worth the 49.99 plus tax, and it has applications such as drywall screw installation, removing just about anything that might be rusted on, etc. Some things are just better to go with, and ask forgiveness later if needed...
The trip was much needed for me and oldest son, so there was more there than just picking up a motorcycle. :)
