im stuck here having a hard time finding the correct tube for the rear wheel, and while im at it the front one possibly as well. i bought my 99 drifter in february and on our first ride the back tire went completely flat. wouldnt hold air at all. so i ordered a new set of tires. decided to do them both because i wanted the white walls. as you guys probably know, it turns out our tires need tubes in em. i pulled the rear wheel off and brought it into my bike guy to swap em out and he says i got the wrong tube. bummer. so now im interneting trying to find the correct ones but a. im not really sure EXACTLY which ones i need and b. im not sure where to get them. im looking for overnight or 2 day shipping as well because the bikes just sitting there all sad looking in the driveway on a jack. i searched the forums here and found a little info but i was kinda seeing if anyone had a verified source where they got theres from and send the info my way. thanks!
Honestly, I've always left the tubes and rim strips up to my mechanic buddies, but I can tell you one thing for sure.......for the rear tube, get one with a 90 degree bend in the stem. It's a lifesaver when airing up!
I have found that sourcing tubes for these bikes is a lot harder than finding tires. You definitely want the 90-degree stem (PV -78 style), though -- You would be hard-pressed to get air in it with a straight stem. The 140/90-16 tube should fit:

Seems like I had trouble finding an "exact" match when I bought mine. Spend way more time hunting for tubes than the tires... :(
Last time I bought one from the Kawasaki dealer, it was like $26...Yamaha uses the same one, and I think there is also a Suzuki or two that use it. It's actually a pretty standard part. Bikebandit has it listed for $23

thanks a lot. i made the mistake of ordering one with a straight stem and my mechanic wouldnt even bother trying to put it on because of the difficulty in filling it. so thats when i tried finding one with the 90 degree bend and came up empty handed. i dont know much of anything about tires or tubes so i think ill trust in you and go with the 140/90-16 and hope for the best. this nice weather is teasing me to get out and ride!!!!!!! thanks again!
I have always ordered from the same outfit for tires and at the same time I order new tubes and rim liners, seems prudent for the cost involved to do it all new.

i ended up finding one on ebay. thought id post the link in case anyone else finds themselves in the same situation. cheers!
I got mine at the local Kawasaki dealer.
A good brand (Metzler I think) with a 90 degree valve stem.
I think most dealers that handle cruisers may have them.
HD dealers certainly should.
I usually order online but I happened to stop in the dealer so I asked and they had them on the shelf.
I looked up the price online afterword and found the local price was only $2 each more.
We have to pay shipping to Alaska so I probably saved at least $20 by buying locally.
I am a firm believer in buy local and support local business's, but then when they try to screw you then go else were. Point in case the local Kaw dealer has instituted a new policy, if you want to buy a part and it is not in stock, and he has to order it then you pay up front and wait for it. This goes for stock parts he should have in stock......makes on wonder.....
That's a new policy?
We have always had to pay up front when we order parts.
Spark plugs, oil filters, everything.
I can understand it since some people would order things and never show up to pay for it.
"I decided I didn't need it..."
I also understand that it is impossible to stock even one of each common item for the bikes they sell.
I like to support local but if I need something they have to order, I can get it cheaper myself, shipped to my door.
Sometimes.
Shipping is always an important part of every purchase up here.
A couple of the dealers have prices close to the online seller and if I don't need it tomorrow and don't mind waiting for their weekly stock order they don't charge shipping.
Up here that is major, for the rest of you in the lower 48 it probably doesn't matter.
Last week I picked up new plugs for my Triumph and asked the parts man how many different spark plugs are commonly used nowadays.
He said there are more than 1,000 different plugs in the NGK catalog.
There are several dozen that are very popular that they try to keep in stock (auto parts store)
I know about shipping charges, when I lived in Goose Bay LB the only way for goods to get in was by boat, plane or the winter road........shipping charges were high.
The policy is new because he claims he has lost to much money on people ordering parts and not picking them up like you said, but you pay for it, and might have to wait 2 weeks till he has what he considers a large enough order to place it.
I go over to the Honda dealer and if it is a Kaw specific part he calls the kaw dealer 2 hours north of here, and he has it in 3 days for us. Not sure why the Kaw dealer can not provide the same service.
I can also order via the GreenBarn express and save some funds that way.......
I can understand the pay-in-advance policy. Like Jag says, too many people order stuff, then decide they don't want it anymore. BTW, anybody want to buy a trailer hitch for a 2004 Lincoln??? another story...... >:(
But the wait-2-weeks-until-I-get-a-big-order deal?? That's not cool....
