I'm getting ready to change my oil and filter. The service manual says to use Kawasaki silicon sealant and put grease on the gasket. I've always just applied oil to filter gaskets and tightened down. Do you guys use this silicon sealant? Thanks for your help, Mike
No silicone, just like you and any filter just wipe seal with oil and go. I did mine a few weeks ago no issues no leaks. Drain oil change filter add 4 qts and your all set ;D
No, I wouldn't use anything but oil, like you said. Last time I changed mine on the Drifter, it did leak just a tad, until I tightened it again after like an hour of service. I guess wait until it's hot and retighten, and after that it shouldn't leak. That's just my experience--some guys will say theirs never leaks period.
8) I'll be that guy, I have (touch (touching my head) wood) had mine leak. I take the bike for a nice short ride to get it nice and warm, level are in the driveway, on the side stand, remove the plug on the side to remove the screen, let it drain, then remove the drain plug under the bottom, remove the filter, then go and sit down and relax for a bit and wait for it to drip and drain all the oil.
Then I go back and wipe down everything and clean it all up, replace all the plugs and screen, then I use a bit of the pil drained to lube the "O" ring on the filter and spin it on by hand, and tighten it by hand, then with my wrench a quarter turn and done.
Thanks for all the good information. Mike
BTW, an old leather belt makes a great oil filter wrench that will fit into all sorts of tough to reach places.

Too stretchy!
I tried the leather belt method and my pants fell down; but I got the filter off.
