Title: Need help - tryin' to know if it's possibile for ma-deuce
Post by: mittico68 on March 01, 2016, 05:43:28 AM
Hi guys, I came across a H-D 2 in 1 exhaust set (with a nice fishtail) that I really like.
Now I'm tryin' to realize if it can be adapted to ma-deuce without too much efforts.
Can anyone suggest some links to sites where you can extrapolate the size of HD exhausts?
Thanx a lot.

I would think this would not be an easy modification.

are you just wanting to add fishtails to your pipes, are you wanting to replace the whole system, or just the muffler?

Good question...
Actually I'd like to replace the whole thing, but my real purpose is to add fishtails and a muffler less big than the OEM one.
I know there's Webike selling a niiiiice exhaust with fishtail, but it's way too much expensive for my poor bucket...

I can help you this much.......the exhaust gasket that goes between the jugs and the pipes are the exact same size.

800 - Part No. 11060-1680 (all years)
HD OEM - PART # 17048-98

That means that the pipes should fit the openings in the heads, but beyond that I'm not much help.

Well I know that a set of pipes from a 1500 will not fit an 800, the bends are wrong.

You might have an easier time to get a pipe bender to replicate the pipes from your 800 and make those fit the pipe ends you are after........

Thanx guys for your help.
Now, if only I could get the overall size of those HD pipes...

Vance & Hines Longshots, the pipes on my bike, have a Header Pipe Diameter of 1-3/4″.

My thought here would be to get my one measurements, so you can get the inside and outside diameter of your own pipes off the bike, then go and visit a Harley shop explain to them what you are after and that you just need the measurements of the pipes so you can see if it is feasible. My own guess is that it might be easier to build them from scratch and save yourself a lot of issues because no matter what you buy it will be a lot of work to make the mods.
Are you currently running a stock set up?

Mmmm, I guess you're right... and after all I'd rather keep off of HD shops: I've been there once in my life with ma-deuce; you should have seen their faces... I felt like I was a bandit or, even worsth, an idiot... Too bad!
And, yes, I've got a stock set up.
Maybe I'd better start to save my money 'till it'll be enough to buy that wonderful set I've seen on Webike!

I have a Roadhouse system on my bike and I have a stock set up under the stairs in the laundry room. Huge difference in weight alone. With the stock system it is super quiet, the Roadhouse system while not "loud" does have that nostalgic rumble to it. I find it a comfort sound. If you can hunt around and search the UK sites for a Roadhouse it might be what you are after. I will stand firm in my belief that either buying a complete new system or waiting for the right one will be far more inexpensive then moding a Harley system over to fit your bike, unless you have a shop and the tools of course.
