Title: 1999 Front Wheel
Post by: Doobby on February 09, 2016, 16:26:33 PM
Not sure if I messed up or not. I just bought a front and rear wheel for my 2001 Drifter. I couldn't pass them up because they were beautiful. They guy powder coated them black and they are badass. Anyway, I realize that the 1999 Drifter has a "manual" or "connected" speedo cable and the 2000 and up is electronic. Does anybody know if the 1999 front wheel will work on my 2001?

I put a '99 speedo drive less the sleeve, in my '01 so I could mount the big hole hub cover I bought. You will need to replace the seal on the right side with one that is correct for the '01, and use the r/s spacer....otherwise, there is no difference. Check bike bandit or partzilla for numbers and "also used on"

I've been messing with this. I'm not sure I know what you mean. The right side spacer fits no problem, but the seal doesn't fit on the right side. The ID of the hub on the '99 wheel is larger to accommodate the speedo drive. Any pics? I thought about just buying a speedo drive on eBay.

Couple of things
the 99 AND the 2000 are speedo cable drives and only from 01 onwards its a 'electronic' speedo system

Yes the 99 wheel will fit a 01 - the only thing you need to do is to get a spacer that fits and I'd recommend org a 'plug' that will cover the speedo drive so that no dirt will accumulate there - grease and dirt will look ugly lol

see how you go and ask away
