Title: Exhaust/Muffler
Post by: Diddly squatt on January 27, 2016, 21:19:40 PM
While riding today things got loud. I removed the chrome guard from where the pipes attach to the muffler. The upper pipe (from the rear cylinder) is cracked all the way through right in front of the weld. Was the top pipe permanently attached to the muffler? The bottom pipe from the front cylinder has a clamp attaching it to the muffler. It is where the 1.75" pipe reduces to 1.50" before it attaches to the muffler.

Is it the stock pipes you have?

ok if you have stock pipes then yup the front has a clamp on it and the rear is welded on the system no clamp....check my picture out, I went to the laundry room and crawled under the stairs to go and pull them old stock pipes out from under the stairs......had to put my tin hat on to go that far under the stairs.....

Thank you, RatMan,  for going to the trouble to check this out for me. That answered my question.
I wonder in the PO might have cut the pipe to attach a set of straight pipes to the factory header pipes?
The break is not at the weld but ahead of it. I think I might fabricate some type of sleeve and clamp to
secure it.
that way the muffler could be removed without removing the header pipes. Thanks again, Mike
