Title: Windshield for my 1500
Post by: two wheels of fury on September 13, 2009, 22:37:44 PM
Hi, guys. Just purchased an 05 Drifter and want to put a windshield on it. The bike is a solo seat model so I'm thinking a smaller windshield but I'm not sure how to figure out what that would be. There seems to be tons of different models and sizes. Any ideas on what brand to buy or what looks good? Also, what about price? Thanks

Rifle can hook you up: http://www.rifle.com/Motorcycle/Kawasaki/srchbike.cfm?&DID=9&BikeNo=4555

If you can find a frame, Cee Baileys offers the shield itself that you can drill to fit: http://www.ceebaileys.com/kawasaki/drifterws.html

Lastly, Chromeworld is a good place to look: http://www.chromeworld.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=catalog.catalog&categoryID=166

Also, all the 1500's (all years) use the same parts, but the '99 and '00 bikes use black parts and the rest use chrome.

FYI,
I've been super happy with my Kawasaki windshield for the past ten years.  It's easy to take off in the hot weather and up/down adjustable so that my 6'3" height is well protected.  The chrome and paint have held up well and it's disassemblable with common wrenches so that you can go buy a new sheet of plexi if it gets all scratched up and cut a new one with a skill saw to renew it every so often,

I have the Kawi shield on mine (Nomad Style, I think), and while you can't tilt it's agle any (without modifying it), the up and down works well.  Thing is, the coating on the shield itself is delaminating.  It was like that when I bought the bike last year.  I don't know whats causing it, but I'll have to buy a new Lexan piece.  I figured Cee Baileys could hook me up.

If you look over in the accessories area of the website under windshields you will get some leads.

Rifle makes replacement plastic for the Kaw shield... I'll be doing that myself shortly.

Cheers.

I bought the generic one from chromeworld manufactured by slipstreamer and it fit terrible. it did not work at all with passing lamps and had a large gap between the headlight and the shield.

This pic shows the adjustment part of the windshield.  There's a base piece that is sandwiched between the triple trees and the risers, and then there's a similar bracket on the shield.  The part on the shield has slots in it where it bolts to the base piece and up slide it up or down to adjust the height.
