Title: Candid Color Opinions
Post by: tj on December 19, 2015, 09:06:19 AM
Just received the tank and fenders back from paint. I'm putting it back together and I'm second guessing the color. The more I look at it, the more yellow it looks. My wife loves it, she says it's very rich...I'm not so sure. Just looking for some candid opinions. Attached is a couple of pics...more in my gallery. Please let me know.
Thanks.

It has an "antique" look to it.  I like it!  It fits the character of the bike.

Ok I looked at all the pictures, not sure if it is "yellow" but what colour was the paint called?
I am thinking that your lights do not help with the colour either. When you ride to Toronto for the bike show I will be able to tell better.
An example a lot of people tell me my bike looks more orange then red, and the colour is Sunbeam Red. Perhaps after 16 years the colour may be fading towards orange, but in person it is red and you can see it, but the pictures tend to bring out the orange.
But I do like PC's thought it is "antique" or an ivory colour and I also like it, at least try it for the summer.

Ya know what?  Forget the bike for a second!  What's up with the Cobra and the Marshall amp?

You suddenly just got much more interesting!  ;D 8)

Looks clean and vintage.  Hows the color in the sunshine?  Any antique, cream or off white has yellow hues.  You could add a pinstripe on the fender line curves for a little pop or accent point.

Looks good.  I would also consider powder coating the wheels either a contrasting or complimentary color.

I love it!
Very close to what I have planned for my Drifter.
I do think it needs pin stripes though.
Subtle, not striking.
Black or white stripes along the fender curve perhaps?

Was suppose to be fallon brown...or close to it. Appaerently it came out yellow when he painted it, so he just kept adding shades and reducing til he thought it was good. So...don't know the colour name. I'd say an ivory.
Ride to Toronto...lol. Although it's been nice enough to ride lately.

lol...my wife doesn't think so.

The "amp" is a bar fridge...a gift years ago. Holds 48 beer!

The Cobra is a replica...ford 347 stroker. 360  rear wheel horsepower on the dyno (we figure about 425 at the crank). 4 speed toploader with a 2.91 ford 9" rear end. 4 link suspension and coilovers. It is a blast to drive!!

Add pin strip huh?...That may add something to it...have to mull that over awhile.

I'll have to wait for a clear day to have a closer look. I thought it looked more whitish outside tho.

A gold and black pinstripe would be cool looking.  The gold would play off of the antique white and the black would be a nice contrast.

This is way too busy, but look how the colors play together on the off white background.

Hard to imagine it...but the colors seem to work nicely.

Honestly I would just add some pin stripping to it to break it up a bit, nothing really fancy and nothing really overly bright to take away from the looks.

We had freezing rain last night and shut the TC down north and west of here for a good couple of hours, you know it is bad when the TC is closed.

I like the color - as many have said, it toes have an antique flavor to it.  However, if it were mine, I would want to 2-tone it....   ;D  but that's just me.  I do love a 2-tone bike.

But I think it does need some pin stripes, though, IMHO.  I'm terrible with coming up with color ideas, though.  Mrs Greenbarn recommended bronze accents.  I like PC's ideas too.  I'm a red fan...  maybe a dark black cherry red??

That's a cool decal.  I went with the War bonnet  decal without any name.  It was an option to have Drifter in the decal or find one with Indian in the name.  Just wanted to keep it more neutral but have something on the sides of the gas tank.  Looks good either way.

I really like that decal! I was going to do something like that as well....but it won't go with my paint color.

;) beside the fact it might clash with your colours it might not allow you into the Grand Bend Kettle point area...lol.....

But they both look awesome.

I haven't seen Indian decal before, is it called "War Bonnet"?
Where can I get them?
Thanks!

http://winnerscyclegraphics.com/DrifterIndian.html

Here's the site I bought mine from.  You can order it with or without Drifter name.  If you wanted Indian instead of Drifter I would call them and ask since they are the maker and should be able to simply add what name you want in the computer before they print it.

They have decals available for clear coating if that's what you want or ones that are just applied to the tank with-out clear coat.

Mine are being clear coated so they sent me the set for that.......

Try this:

It's a bit different, but maybe they've got also what you're lookin' for..

Jaglite, I hit a wrong button and accidentally erased your post......sorry about that.

You were saying that the website given was kind of screwy.  I had trouble with it too.  I did click on the logo in the top corner of the page and saw some pinstripe sets, but no war bonnets.  Some of the other links work, and some don't.  The "contact" link does work, so I suppose you could get ahold of a live person that way and go from there.

Thanks PC,
I sent a message using their contact email but it bounced back undeliverable.
I will check again in a few days.

This link seems to open fine.  Look halfway down the page and the Drifter Gold Leaf or can order Silver Leaf.

Use your laptop or computer to see the full page.  If I open it with my cellphone it shows only small areas of their website but using laptop can see full page.

Thanks. The mirrors were a PIA to find. I ordered a 3" mirror set at first, but I found the 3" looked a bit small for the bike. I ended up ordering a 4" set, which is what you see on the bike. I haven't been at highway speeds yet, so I have no idea if the mirrors have any vibration in them.

They have alot of parts. Shipping was quick.

I bought leather from FJleather, on Ebay. It was about a year ago.    They are from out east - probably digging out from many many inches of snow right now (come to think about it, they had a blizzard the week I bought my stuff..... )

I checked and they do not have any listings at this moment on Ebay - but this is the contact info I had
Sally O'Donnell
F & J Leather, Inc.
Cell #: 617-688-9091

The stuff I got was excellent quality, and at a great price.

If you don't get them immediately, check back later - I remember it's a father-daughter outfit, and if I recall one or both of them had some health issues at that time.

If that doesn't work---  search on Ebay for "horse" leather saddlebags -- I found a lot better selection for what I wanted that way - that's how I found F&J

Now that I am getting closer to deciding what color, shade, and finish I will use on my bike, I keep coming back to yours as my favorite.

Have you been able to shoot any pics outside in natural light?

And, more importantly, it doesn't look like gloss to me, is it semi-gloss, mat, or flat?

Whatever it is, that is the look, I am looking for.   ;)

Couple pics of the bike outside attached. It is an ivory color in the shade...A little yellowish in the sun, like butter.  It's a mat finish.
Cheers.
