I have my fenders, gas tank and side painted covers off at the local paint shop. I love Drifter solid colors ones as well as two tone colored ones but for $300 more the shop will two tone the whole bike in my choice of colors to include matching tear drop two tone on the gas tank matching the fenders.
My 2001 is factory cardinal red and a great color. ORIGINALLY -The shop was going to remove the factory fender decals and do the sides of the fenders in a cream color matching the factory decal cream color on the tank that is factory clear coated and respray the cardinal red on the front fender to make it like new since it has a few paint marks and apply / clear coat tank decals on the gas tank sides Originally for $700.
After talking with the shop they will paint the whole bike a Solid color with a gold or I pick a color pinstripe on the curves of the sides of the fender for $200 more ($900 total) or $300 more ($1000 total) do a complete new color I pick in two tone with gas tank two tones and decals added.
Iam leaning towards the $300 / $1000 total and pick two new colors but I also like the solid color Deep Turquoise Green color on the 2000 Drifter 1500.
It is basically $900 solid color paint job or $1000 two-tone paint job and I could go either way but thinking of it also as a investment thinking two tones are worth more if I ever sell the bike? Your thoughts.
I have the color down to four choices and I love all four choices................In random order since I can't decide??????
1st- Solid color Deep Turquoise Green from the 2000 Drifter 1500
2nd- Deep Turquoise Green main color with two tone being a white or off-white color or pewter like on Truck
3rd- Victory red main color with two tone being pewter color ***Matching the exact colors on my mint 2001 Silverado.
4th-Victory red solid color from truck.
Any help???? I can't decide

What about red and an antique white? Maybe add a pewter pinstripe to separate the two colors?
The tank decals are gold so the pinstripe will be gold. This is the exact recall but mine is without the Drifter name.
My other tank set are equally nice but did not want to badge the bike Indain but I like the set a little more.
If I use this set then I am forced with the name forever. I don't know. Not a bad thing but then its a Indian tribute bike since Kawasaki already did 90 % of the work.
Boy picking a colour is such a personal thing, I like root beer and cream, I am also a fan of GB's 800 colour scheme of burnt orange and cream, it was awesome in all the parts in his shop last time I saw it. But then his 1500 is also really nice.

Those are some nice colored bikes. I probably looked at a thousand bike pics and every Drifter on the internet. Anything I do will be cool since every Drifter looks so cool in any color. Now Iam leaning back to keeping the factory cardinal red which I equally like as much and pick the color thats close to the factory clear costed decal and keep that decal on the bike and I save $300 and pay the $700 which gets my bike the front fender painted like new, Indian head decals applied and clear coated on tank and the fenders two toned. That's my best bang for the buck. That and I looked at so many color options my eyes are see double drifters ;D.
;) my original painted bike.....and all the Drifter parts I could find for the bike......only things missing in these pictures are the front hub cover and the Drifter shifter......
Really cool sunbeam red and setup you got. What's a drifter shifter. Does it relocate it to a hand shifter?
Sorry yes it is the hand shifter......lol...and a fun option to mess with peoples brains when you use it riding about town. This winter I did swap out the front rotor to a drilled one to make the front even more unique. I can not think of anything more I can add to the bike that was listed as either a Drifter part or F&S parts for the Drifter 800........
Personally I prefer two tone. I think it brings out the design of the bike. My '99er was the obligatory Gooseberry maroon. I liked the color but I chose to paint my bike red over black. I get a lot of compliments on the combo.
I agree and nice colors on yours. That's a unique red black combo I have not seen that many of which is a good thing. Looks great. I was reading a article about the new Indians two tones and here a quote-

The two-tones really accentuate and just make the beautiful fender curves pop. I am doing a two tone with mine just for those reasons personally. Solid colors looks fantastic too but I also wanted a two tone paint color.

Local lad won a H-D in a draw, a week later his ordered Indian came in, his wife took one look at the colour and said not in a heart beat, so she kept the H-D and he now rides his Indian alone.....I like the colour scheme

I've recently painted both my Drifters, so I'll weigh in. I've said it a thousand times - I love a two-toned paint scheme on a bike. I decided, for me, if I'm going to spend the money on painting a bike, I want it to be 2-tone.
My first bike was the 800, an '02 black pearl. When I got it, I had been wanting an Indian, so I put a lot of Indian stuff on there. Later, after the Polaris Indians became so popular, I decided I didn't like the Indian stuff so much. Just a personal preference.
Fast forward a couple years, and I got a '03 Ruby Red 1500. Pretty bike, but I wanted a 2-tone. Took it to the painter, and it was planned to be a Corvette red metallic and Chevy ivory 2-tone. He talked me out of doing the complete paint job, because the red was in such good shape in most places - we just put the ivory 2-tone on the sections that needed repainted the worse. I like the way it turned out.
Then once that was done, I decided to re-do the 800. Again, it's got to be 2-tone.
Now, the 2000 turquoise is one of my favorite Drifter colors. I like the Red and the sky blue a lot too, and was really considering some variation of green and ivory as well. Thing is, I decided I didn't want to go with something that was nearly identical to a factory color. I personally really like the vintage Indian 2-tones, , but for me, I would stay far far away from Indian colors too -- people are already always mistaking my Drifters for Indians.... So I went with burnt orange and ivory on this one.
I think if I were you... I might paint it to match the Silverado. Well, actually, I'd sell the Chevy and buy a Ford, but that's another topic ;D
But honestly, I've only seen about 3 Drifters that I would call "ugly", just because they were so far out there that they were REALLY ugly. It's hard to make one look bad....

I seen your two tone and set-up is way cool. The Drifter name on tank looks real custom. I like that. Those turn signals real nice. Did you install the Indian face logo front fender tip? Any issues pos. or neg with it. It looks awesome. I wanted to get the tip but I heard some say there are some gaps. I seen a lot of Drifter pics with that same fender tip so any gaps must be to small to be a concern. Any install tips if I put one on?
Thats funny. I've owned Ford 150/250 trucks too and Toyota Tundras so there. My future truck will be a 150 or a Tundra but those are the three brands I buy. I plan on getting a newer truck in a few years.
My main desire was to get 2 tone since I wanted that look so I ruled out the all new solid paint job. Then it was do I pay 300 more for two new colors or go with my original plan since I really like the factory Candy Cardinal Red and remove the fender decals not-clear coated, keep the factory clear coated tank decal and add a teardrop Indain head to the tanks with no names on decals, and pick a color to go with the factory tank decal which the painter will put some samples together and that will be the color of the fenders two tones to pull it all together. Plus I like that option more then I would pay another 300 to change both and still end up with a two tone.

If it's a new bike and two-tone options are available, the manufacturer usually charges a tad more for the two-tone. That being said, once the bike is off the showroom floor, I haven't seen a price difference between the two.
On the question of what color to paint your bike, 2beers and I have noticed that my Candy Apple Red and Ivory 2-tone and his solid Sky Blue 800 have such completely different looks. Sitting and looking at the two of them, his fenders actually look 'bigger' or just more dramatic than mine. Optical illusion, yes, but if you love the big fenders, then we think they're more noticeable in one color.
Can't wait to see pics of what you decide...whatever it is, it'll be another gorgeous Drifter.
