Title: new member from St.Louis,MO
Post by: pietperson on October 23, 2015, 13:54:49 PM
Bought my Kawasaki 800 drifter last week, a 2000 model. Silver and Black. Haven't rode it much with work and all, a little better than 400 miles or so, but it rides well and sounds great. Wish it was spring instead of fall though so I could ride more.
Looking for hiway bars, found them on ebay but the seller is in Great Britain and I have no idea how much the shipping would be. Any one here have a clue?

Welcome and congrats for buying such a cool bike, much cooler then a 1500. You now have lots of time to tinker and get it ready for spring.
I have bought parts from the UK, Netherlands and Belgium, and shipping will depend on the person shipping and how much he wants to gouge you. I have lucked in and never had that happen and had decent shippers.  Who is the shipper?

CDNRatman, the seller is metricmotorcyclesUK. The bar is 1 1/4" or 35 mm whatever you are familiar with. It is black as is my drifter and looks cool. Really want to know the shipping cost before I commit. Have sent question on shipping twice and gotten no response. Am now kind of leery of ordering. If they won't answer a question, will they even ship?

Ok never dealt with them, so I asked on the UK forum for Drifters and will see what they tell me. He seems ok with what I could see. Some of the people over there seem to take forever to respond to an e mail.
When you order there should be a place were it states the shipping charges and you can still back out, please sent me the link ...thanks.

Welcome to the forum, Piet...  Glad you've joined us.   Congrats on buying a Drifter, Coolest bike on the planet.   Good luck in finding your bars - unfortunately I cannot help you on that one.

Piet; FYI I had 2 people send responses about metricmotorcyclesUK and said that it was a good place to deal with but they might be balking at the customs and shipping hassle they might encounter. My suggestion is to keep trying.

Pietperson: I have a black highway bar (engine guard) from MotorsloopBG in Belgium. They fit and look good on the 800. I had them on a season or two, then found an original KW black engine guard....so would be willing to part with the first one. It is the same as the one Ratman has on his machine.
Still have the box it came in. I am in Maryland, so shipping will be less too.
Send a pm and let's talk.

The one photo in my gallery is with the Motorsloop engine guard on.

The site won't let me send a pm, says I am not registered in one place and that I am in another place. Anyway, my email is mushface1@gmail.com if you would email me with the price. I ordered one on monday from fitzsimmons, but I may be interested in another one.

I think you have to have 5 posts to PM people, so you're almost there.
