So I just purchased a Dynojet kit for my 800 drifter, and I'm wondering if this YouTube which is for a regular Vulcan will give me what I need as far as how to get it apart? I think it says for a 99 to 2004, but my bike is an 06: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=b9yjxn5HNVE. Thanks for your help.
Any differences will be inconsequential 800 Vulcans are much closer to 800 Drifters than 1500 Classics are to 1500 Drifters.
OK good to know. Actually I looked at this YouTube that I've posted here and unfortunately they fast-forward through so much of it that it's almost useless to a know-nothing like me. However, I looked up Dyna jet install and saw how it's done on several other carburetors to kind of get the idea, so I might be able to pull it off on my drifter 800. I'll let you know how it goes.
I just got home from a friend's house where I rebuilt the carb set on a '94 FZR 600 Yamaha. Virtually the same carb (x4) as on your 800 Vulcan. Pretty easy to work on. Kehins are a bit easier to rebuild than Mikunis...
That video does a good job of showing what to do. The 800 Drifter is just about identical. You don't need to remove the carb completely to service it. Once it is free, the top and bottom can be removed in place. This makes the job much easier. It is also possible to free up the carb without removing the tank and air-box. It is a bit tricky to maneuver the filter housing into the airbag, but it is possible.
When in doubt about anything, take a picture first...everybody has a camera now a days...
