Hey gang...
This backrest was marketed as fitting both an 800 and a 1500, as seen at the bottom of the ad.
I know that the horseshoe bracket is different on both bikes, as the frame is different, but can anyone confirm whether or not this backrest will bolt to a 1500?
Thanks...
I looks right, but I don't know for sure about the bolt holes lining up. It'd be easy enough to reweld new tabs if it didn't line up.
That looks exactly like the sissy bar back rest I bought from Custom Wings in Belgium.
Rewelding might be the answer if you have access to the equipment but what about the width of the unit to the seat? Not sure how wide the seat is on a 1500 vice an 800......
So what are you saying... That guys with 1500's have wider seats?! Maybe I'm just carrying a little water weight... I'm so hurt.
remember I seen you sitting on the picnic table bench........lave it alone unless you want to be embarrassed.......
Hey! I've seen the snow angel pic, so I can attest to the fact that Mr. Ratman is about the same build as I am.
He had the fries at the chip stand. I didn't.
Just sayin'.

Pastor Dude some place in the good book it does state that bearing false witness against thy neighbour is wrong, but then I am not your neighbour, so that might be the catch all, Jeffery who brought you a T shirt and delivered it almost to your door step, and I paid for them fries myself....so there......
Are you saying that I haven't seen your snow angel pic?
(WARNING!!!! Open link at your own risk!!! I am not responsible for any nightmares that may result!)

AAAARGH! My EYES!!! I'm ruined!!!!! :'( Some things just can't be unseen. :-[ :o
Quit looking at it!
Huh. Thought I'd seen everything. Turns out I'll never see anything again now that my retinas are burned out.
Kinda makes me sorry I asked about "seats"...
...and for the record, NO, I'm not bolting THAT to the back of my bike for my wife to sit on.
pardon......and they think we do not enjoy shoveling snow...eh!

I can't erase if from memory. I close my eyes and see lots of white and. . . . . . :'( :o
I DID warn you!
I posted a link, so you didn't have to view it. I could have posted the pic and forced you all to look at it, but I'm not that mean.
Go to the drift In 2015 section for a far worse picture........
No way! You aren't baiting me like that!
;) nope it is a cool picture you will like it think cabbage patch doll on a Drifter.....
Does it say "STUPID" on my forehead?
come closer so I can read the fine print....... ;)
The wife wants to check it out, but I'm afraid!
She likes it!
Your eyes will bleed. Trust me on this. :-[
Anything Ratman is involved in makes me cautious!
Well I know that some people would differ with you because I can be to the right people a really nice person.
Ask GB and his wife, ask 49 Reo, Baby Face and his partner, even ask Parson he is a man of the cloth.......
you people with dark hearts are so suspicious....
check with Donkey, Nanook, and even aralph....
Remember, PC, no guts, no glory! ::)
I said "cautious".........
I checked it out and it's far less disturbing then the snow angel.

Ok let us get back on topic here and deal with Donkeys lack of a backrest, this is more important then all of you worried over my backside, Donkey would like to take his wife and children for rides on his really cool Drifter and he requires a backrest so one of you 1500 riders who has a spare sitting about dig it out and offer the poor lad a deal on it so he can have a happy Drifter family and perhaps show up in WI for the regional gathering in 16 at Sparta. Come show some class here for a guy.....
Well, I'm not going to be able to help there. The best I have laying spare is a seat rail for the 2up.

Seat rail you say?! As in "grab rail", or the seat stay that goes under the seat to hold the 2-up on?
I'm looking for that seat stay, the one shown in the battery case blow-up diagram...
It's the grab rail. Should have been more clear. Sorry to get your hopes up.
...you big mean dude you, PC......
:(
I notice for a pastor he can have an awful mean streak in him.......
Donkey I will keep looking for a backrest and sissy bar with a luggage rack for you my Ottawa friend......

What? Wait! So I didn't use the exact right terminology for the part, but I still offered a valuable part, which, I might add, was more then you offered, and I'm the bad guy?
You offered him a part from a 1500 for a 1500, I do not have anymore parts for a 1500, but when I did I offered them to everyone and finally sent them to GB who has or had them. I am at least on a hunt for a luggage rack back rest for the lad, and not offering him parts he does not need and calling them something he needs and getting his hopes up and then smashing them..........because you used the wrong term......
Ratman, eat a snickers.........
(Oh wait, you might not have those commercials up in the frozen tundra. Here, try this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QFjWoM36TXM )
Why were you tackling that little old lady? I will never understand you......
and eat a snickers what is that ?

Snickers: http://www.couponclipinista.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/07/snickers.jpg?2a90f9
OH, JEEZ..The kids are fighting again! Who wants a "time out"?
I will just to get away from him........
Donkey start thinking road trip to Toronto in Jan. for a few days....lol......
But if you don't have Snickers, why bother? ;)
and once more you take us off topic but no snickers bars but we have Uqhuq or Muktuk which is better for you......
What the heck is Uqhuq or Muktuk?
BTW, I couldn't find a passenger backrest on Ebay or Craigslist. See, I'm on topic. I'm just multi-tasking!
Use the wonderful tool of goggle and see what we eat for the best source of vitamin D and for protein......
I have had several close calls for the backrest but all for a classic, not a Drifter.....
OK, so the first one, Uqhuq, is simply gibberish according to Google: https://www.google.com/search?newwindow=1&biw=1280&bih=675&q=Uqhuq&oq=Uqhuq&gs_l=serp.3..35i39.5230.6803.0.7906.5.5.0.0.0.0.90.403.5.5.0....0...1c.1.64.serp..1.4.318.0.WB2dV_-Cp84
And Muktuk is frozen whale skin and blubber. Thanks anyways, I'll have a Snickers bar!
I can say it but perhaps spelt it wrong it is just a variant for muktuk. Did you find a back rest for Donkey yet?
No, but I've been thinking that a few minutes in a metal shop should create some brackets that will mount up and can be drilled for a genaric backrest. Been thinking about how I'd make it.
Well with your talent and your size you just need a flat table some blocks of wood for a template, heat the round stock and bend it around in the jig. Then you just grind down any welds and then leave as is and sell them to members at a reasonable price, giving a cut to the forum to maintain it, some to your favorite church and all the good will to yourself. If I had the talent and space I would do just that ......
A bracket, made up something like this one, would be all you'd need, and then you could mount any generic backrest you wanted by just drilling a couple of mounting holes.

Well make a few up and then make a few sissy bars and start your own business......or ask aralph to use his CnC machine to make the brackets......

That's exactly what I'm thinking about doing if I can't find a backrest and luggage rack. I just need to make some room in my cluttered shop so I could work in there. LOL

Both backrest and luggage rack would be $342.00 U.S dollars shipped to me from the UK. :o :-\
What about a wompus rack and drilling it for a generic backrest?

That looks like it can work, and is a good option.
I think that $235.00 plus shipping for just the rack, I'll pass on this one. Thanks for posting though.
;) well old fella perhaps time to come out of retirement and start a small business.
looks like the one I have on mine . But only way to be shure is to measure or try
Hey... I remember this place...
Still don't have a backrest...
Where have you been lad........
The Drifter backrest is somewhat of a unicorn on the internet. I passed one up several years ago on eBay because I didnt want to pay 300 bucks. I thought I could get it cheaper. Fast forward to this past July and I got a beat up one from Maine for 201.01 form eBay. Lol. Good luck as I also tried that uK site. It will let you place it in your basket but they will reply that it no longer is available.
