My 2004 1500 gauge is showing empty after 125 miles also the low fuel light comes on at this time. It is a 5 gallon tank and the bike is doing 50mpg. Is this normal that it is so inaccurate. Even though you know there is plenty fuel left its a bit concerning seeing the light on.
Mine comes on when there is 1.5 gallons left.
I have an 02 1500 and have the same thing happening.
On long trips I use my odometer to gauge my fuel usage.

Same for mine. I never trust them. I go by the mileage too. It has been the same thing with every every Kawasaki I have owned. And I never trust the MPG readout on my Vaquero. I ran out of gas 1 time and learned I never want to push my bike again. Shunter if your getting 50mpg that is great! Did you ever get your slipping clutch figured out?
Yeah, my light comes on at around 150 miles or so, but when I fill up the most I've ever added was 4 gallons. Strange that you're not getting the range I am when I'm only getting around 47mpg.
Thanks guys,I presume I get good economy as most of our riding is around 40-50 mph due to our road structure but we are two up most of the time. I would say by what I am filling up with the tank is still half full as it is only taking between 2.5 to 2.75 gallons to fill it,I will just reset the trip in future and it's good to know it's not just mine. As for my surging problem unfortunately not got to the bottom of that one yet,I have just gone easy on the throttle in second gear. I will sort it in the end.
With my 800 there's no problem at all... the bike has got no low fuel lights: she just tells you that it's time to watch for a gas station, by lowerin' really faaaast its speed.
The real problem is when she does it while you're facing a road curve... :o

Mine almost exactly the same
My light usually comes on at 140.
Now I never knew this but something made me look it up,my fuel consumption may seem very good but we have bigger gallons over here ours are 4.55 litres and our fuel is also very expensive at £1.24 a litre but who is counting, the pleasure we get from the bike you can't put a cost on it.
Same here...my light comes on around 140 and I usually have approx 1.5 gal left. My speedometer is 5 mph slow though..when it says I'm doing 60 I'm actually doing 55 GPS.
As far as I am aware the speedo is spot on as we have a few mobile signs which show your speed, green if you are legal and red if you are speeding. My speedo always agrees with them unless there are out of calibration.
I've found the half way mark make means 3/8 of a tank, "E" is another 3/8 and that leaves 1/4 of a tank for reserve as the red light comes/stays on.
So double what you get at the half way mark to see how far before "E", and you've then add a 1/3 of what's on the odometer when you get the red light staying on.
Speedo registers 100, when the GPS says 94 kph - so 6% over-error. I get about 48Miles to your gallon.
It's all becoming clear now,I thought it was a uk 5 gallon tank and was thinking I would get 250 miles at 50mpg. I am glad I did not risk it,it turns out it is 19 litres which is 4.2 of our gallons so it seems we are all about the same when the light comes on. I am so glad I asked as I intend to.do some touring soon and that could have been embarrassing.
