Title: Newbie from South carolina
Post by: skip wilkenson on July 16, 2015, 14:57:59 PM
Just joined this forum and just purchased my first drifter 800. I have not ridden in 35 years. It is not like ridding a bicycle. It is coming back to me though. Just slower than I thought.

You will have lots of time to practice stop and going because everyone will want to talk to you.......the 800 is a super fun bike to ride and so easy to get about on and it is great to travel on.....

Welcome to the forum!

Many of us were in the same boat.  Not riding for years at a time, and then coming back to it.......you get the feel again, don't worry.

Hit us up when the questions pop up, and they will!

Greetings Skip!
So, you Skipped a few years riding did you?
Most of us have for various reasons.

When I bought a street bike after a 5 year period of no bike I took the MSF advanced rider course and found it very helpful.

I didn't need to learn how to operate a bike, but I liked getting a refresher in riding the much more dangerous street environment.

Now I recommend everyone take a class and the ones who have are very glad they did.

I would love to take a class on a track (track day) to get more comfortable at deep leaning in corners to build more confidence in the bike and tires.
But, no race tracks (with corners) within 2,000 miles so that is not possible.

Hey, did anybody mention pics yet?  We want pics...  8)

I'll second the recommendation for the MSF course - good stuff.

You should hop on that thing next week and come up to Pikeville for the annual Drift-in.....  It will be a Crash Course in "Drifter"....   You'll be amazed at all the Drifters in one place.   It's not that far for you.
