Title: Palidin & Storm down but not out
Post by: Palidin on September 02, 2009, 14:09:33 PM
Well my bike Storm and I are currently out of commission. We took a slide on some grey sand on a concrete road and down we went. We slammed it a 10" high drainage curb and I got slingshotted off into a gravel parking lot. Broken my right shoulder blade and 2 ribs. Storm's not bad  - windshield is carved up good, right turn signal is chopped up, right floor board is bent up into exhaust shield, front fender is scratched up good. But it could have been a lot worse. I was wearing an armoured jacket which saved my whole shoulder from being broken, leather chaps that saved my legs , and an Icon Snell Full face helmet that - well saved my ass!! So looks like we are both going to be out of commission for 6 weeks but hope to be back up and riding soon after we both get released from care. Palidin

Palidin,
Good to hear no permanent damage to you or the steed.  Armored jackets are so great; I've got a Joe Rocket that's never been tested like you did today but it's real nice wearing all that armor and the venting makes wearing it way better than my old leather heavyweight.
I have been shopping around Craig's list today and one of the Penna. areas has a guy selling a boatload of Drifter parts.  It'll give you a chance to shop around.  Lots of $4-5K drifters in NY and PA with real low mileage.

Heal quickly and remember that taking vitamin E and calcium really speeds bone mending.

Palidin, glad you're OK!  The bike can be replaced, but you, .................

We can all keep and eye out for parts if you need some, or maybe this is a good excuse to customize?

I do know of a rear fender thats off of an 800.  I know that J&P Cycles is selling Gilroy Indian Steel fenders for $99 bucks that with a little massaging will fit the Drifter, and that would give you steel.  http://www.jpcycles.com/Search/ProductDetail?sku=990-574&N=2761610 28002777 274804&Ne=755118&Ntk=All&Ntt=&Ns=DefaultSort&results=10&No=

Turn signals from Nomads, Classics and Meanies should fit.  Vulcan floorboards should be good to go.  Lots of exhaust choices out there.

The main thing though is to get you better!

I really do appreciate all the comments, replies and emails. It makes looking at 4 walls 24/7 bearable.  I've been a good boy not using the right arm so with luck and a fair wind i won't have to go thru the orthopedic surgery, we'll find out tuesday after labor day from a new set of x-rays if things are knitting back together like they should. Thanx Guys
