Title: Effects of running lean & old thread
Post by: drifter-paul on March 31, 2015, 00:16:08 AM
I've put Dual Nomad pipes on my Drifter after a lot of work. Now the new pipes are fairly blue after 3000 K (2000 miles). Power seems fine, fuel economy no worse, seem to be able to rev higher in each gear, but don't intentionally go to the orange/red zone.

From my initial queries on the Forum, I may have to go to a PC III to get it in normal tune - no further blue-ing.

Question 1 - What are the effects of running lean - if it is only reduced power than I can live with that

Question 2 - Chief, I've searched the Mods/Tips and '1500' site, but can't find the original article on minutely adjusting a screw on the EMS to enrich the mix, can you point me at the thread, please.

Unfortunately (unless critical, in which case the children will have to fore-go little luxuries like food & I'll settle for mainstream "beer"), the  PC III is beyond my budget until I get back into work.

Thanks

Sure wish that there was an adjustment on the computer to change the mixture, but there isn't. Last time I saw something like that was on the 1973 Renault R-17 Gordini model

If you run lean, the exhaust temp. goes up, exhaust pipes turn blue and exhaust valves can burn up.
Gas is cheap compared to engine rebuilding.
Google "lean running engine" for more info.
