Title: db levels with longshots
Post by: richaud on March 27, 2015, 06:21:31 AM
Hi. Anyone here made a measurement of the db levels whilst having longshots on them? I'm in for the MoT next week and hoping theyll pass under 103Db

Definitely quieter with the baffles in. What do they do for the testing?

I don't know how much help this will be, but it lists some similar pipes from V&H, along with ways to quiet them further if you happen to not pass.  http://www.gadgetjq.com/vhbagger_shhh.htm

Just to get through a test once a year why not get a bit of thin 1/2" chicken wire and a bit of fibre glass mat and roll it like a swiss roll, stuff it up the pipe until after the test then hook it out with a thin wire coat hanger until next year.

I see what you're saying.  I do not have long shots, so can't help you out there.

I did notice, however, that there are db meter apps for smart phones available.  If you or someone you know has a smart phone, that might work for you.

I'll be interested in the answer, I am half thinking of removing the baffles on my longshots but the old girl is running as sweet as a nut and the other half of me doesn't want to mess that up. Besides with all the speed cameras we have here finding a safe road to do that top speed again to see if it is better without the baffles could cost me my license.

I tried the ole chicken wire trick, but it was WAY insufficent for V&H Nomad duals on a '99 Drifter for Oz.
89.5 on original OEM pipes and 93 max, supposely permissable for a m/c of that vintage) in Oz - land of the free. I fabbed my own Wave baffles - 185mm with 4 half plates 180 degree offset internally as per the mod in another thread to this topic, and welded them onto the original V&H baffles - now 485mm of baffle. This keeps me from the attention of certain people.

Unfortunately Longshots are a lot slimmer. The available V&H baffle (maybe 2 per pipe) may have to be the go.

I couldn't hear a big difference between cell phone recordings of the straight thru headers, and the mufflers with baffles in place - again no scientific readings.
