Title: Brecon Beacons
Post by: John Hopkins on November 29, 2014, 14:06:09 PM
The Brecon Beacons is one on the biggest national parks in Wales and some of it is owned by farmers who have had it in their family since the world began, another section is owned by a British Lord and on thursday 220 acres is going to be auctioned off, an acre is (by my reckoning) about 76 yards by 76 yards so 220 acres should be about 14 x 15 acres ..I make that about 5/8ths of a mile square or in Canada about 1 km square.. so I'm going to have to ride to Cardiff to bid on that..

If I get it my kids are all going to have to put up with parkland for a christmas present this year..

Everybody should own their own park. You could turn it into a very small hunting preserve or perhaps a patch of "natural" wilderness....

Good luck. I have 5 acres and am looking for some more on a river here in TN. I'm not sure what restrictions come with the land, but I will wager you have looked into that already. We will be thinking about you! Cheers.

It's only 220 acres but it's only about 7 miles from my house, It would be nice to get it..The local film companies use it, They filmed part of Clash of the Titans, and Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy, some Doctor Who and Merlin and a few other things there..So there might be a few bidders, I'm not going to pay silly money for it..

Good luck John; hope you get it. Owning a piece of land is always nice. I still have 32 acres back in Chetwynd; not ideal location or piece of land but still ours.

I've been looking at the land and there are a lot of sink holes in it, full of water from an underground lake..I don't know how deep they go but one of them is about 100 yards long by about 20 yards..I'm still going to bid on it but I won't be going too high..

I rode to the auction rooms today to bid on my piece of a national park..the weather was cold, it was dark, the road had ice on it and when I got there I found that the land was withdrawn..sold yesterday, prior to auction..so another two hours of my life that I will never get back..
