I have a 2001 1500 Drifter with no mods added; I seen on you tube a 1500 drifter with the goat bladder removed. If I remove this and make a exhaust pipe to replace it, will it cause any problems with engine performance?
No, may help. Usually those who do this do NOT need an add-on Fi box like the Cobra, PCIII etc.

Blame it on California, I believe. They have a catalytic converter inside it. And all the rest of us pay for an empty box. Bad go - Kawasaki !!
What happens if you eliminate it and pipe directly to the muffler?
The exhaust works.........
Might have to disable the reed valves or just "marble" the engine if you get popping.

The bike breaths better, and you likely will not need to add an add-on FI box. You don't need the EPA stuff either though many folks have done that at the same time.

I did marble the bike after I had a few popping sounds when I would ease off the throttle. Most of the people I ride with love the look of the bike but say it's just to quiet.

I dunno. mine is loud enough for me without raising the eyebrows of the local constabulary....
I'm running a Roadhouse exhaust now but when I bought the bike it had the stock exhaust which was modified by the PO to bypass the goat bladder. He also de-baffled the muffler. It had a nice rumble to it but nothing offensive. Best of all there was no popping on deceleration.
Any pics of the bypass? It'd be interesting to see how he did it.
I have Vance and Hines longshots with baffles, now and again the devil bites my bum and I consider removing the baffles to make the bike a lot louder.. but then I think..why do something to a bike that has done everything I have asked of it and never let me down..

My bike has had all of that stuff removed by the p/o and has the reed valve block off plates. It is also running straight pipes. It is a bit too loud for my taste and does lack back pressure when decelerating. I think i am gonna add some slip in after market baffles just to help with popping and exhaust cackle on the decell. I will say this for removal of exhaust emissions bs my bike flys! My buddy has stock 1500 an the power difference is night and day no more 105mph max speed and no more quite under powered feel in 5th gear. His bike in 5th if you lay on it makes noise but doesn't go anywhere. My drifter jumps when you slam the throttle just my experience but i will be removing all the reed valve goat bladder and smog bs from any bike i own from now on

The bypass was pretty straight forward. It looks like any other aftermarket exhaust (with the exception of some crude welds) The stock covers hid all the pipes. I passed the whole works on the Troll for one of his projects.
