Recently I notice my drifter 800 drips a small amount of oil from the tube on left side frame just behind the kickstand. I was curious if this is the hose from the air box? I noticed my air box has a small amount of oil in it as well as lines all over the place. Can anyone tell me what these lines are as I am going to replace with an 00' indian air cleaner. I'd like to cap or remove as many lines as possible while also removing the emissions gold valve as well. Why does it have oil in the air box? Thanks
The oil comes from the crankcase venting gases. Behind the filter you will see this vent - a small metal tube from the no. 1 cylinder (the rear cylinder). From this vent you will see a tube going to the air filter box. From the air filter box you have another two tubes, one goes to the little recipient that hangs in front of your bike, under the water cooler (collects most of the oil) and the other one goes to the left side of the engine, between the cylinders and goes down with some electrical cables ( i guess is for draining other unnecessary trash fluids from the air box). It is perfectly normal to find some small traces of oil in the airbox, but if you want to keep your filter clean ( at least from the crankcase shit) you can remove the entire system and replace it with a single tube and a crankcase vent filter.
