Title: Location Assistance...
Post by: chief on September 08, 2014, 15:17:00 PM
I have to set up a mini-reunion for my wife and her brothers... One lives in Michigan, most live in Memphis, we live in Nashville area (Franklin). Looking for someplace in middle Indiana, over a long weekend the first weekend of November.

If you have any suggestions please let me know! I've been procrastinating on this!

We're not fixed up for that many guests here at the house, but if you're looking for a gathering place I can definitely suggest Nashville, Indiana in Brown County.  It's hill country, so you'll feel right at home, and it's located between Bloomington, Indiana and Indianapolis, Indiana (closer to Bloomington, IN, home of Indiana University).  Nashville is mostly a tourist town, so November would definitely be off season and you'd get some great room rates, and about 2/3 of the businesses stay open year round on weekends, maybe 1/2 through the week.  There's several hotels (and restaurants.....one right in the center of town that serves Birch Beer!) around town, and I've stayed at the Brown County Inn on the edge of town several times and it's real nice, though the decor is a little dated as it's an older hotel.  The pool is nice, the food is good, and the bar, though not real big, has live music most weekends.

Here's is a listing of hotels in Brown county.  http://www.lodgingbrowncounty.com/hotels.shtml  Some are not near Nashville, so pay attention to that.  Once you're out of the small but busy town of Nashville it's quite rural, so not much to do.  If you want a bigger town right off the highway, Columbus, IN is about a 15-20 minute drive from Nashville (so you could easily visit Nashville or Indianapolis if you're looking for stuff to do) and it's nice.  Bloomington, IN would be another possibility, but there's no real direct highway going to it so it's a little more isolated in that sense, but it is bigger.

I am not suggesting Indianapolis only because it's a good sized city, so it can be a pain to get around in, though if you wanted to go that route there is some cool stuff in Indy to see and do, like going to the Indianapolis 500 track and museum.  There's also Circle Center Mall in downtown Indy that has all your shopping needs met.

Let me know if I can be of any help, and maybe we can meet up while you're in my neck of the woods!

Sir PC I was not suggesting that you host the Family Chief at your home, but because you are from that state, then you would be the SME on IN.
Also being the ever helpful person we all know and care about, you would be more then willing to lend a hand and make this work for our member.
That was all no sinister plot here.

We stayed in French Lick, IN once.  It was several years ago, and I don't remember a whole lot about it - but we enjoyed it...

Nashville is very nice, too.  If I recall there are several antique shops.

Oh I know.  If it were just Chief and his wife, we could, and would, do that. More then that though would be tougher.

French Lick is nice, but it can be expensive.  They have the casino's there, so there really isn't an off season to take advantage of.

There are quite a few antique places in and around Nashville.  There's a couple up the road in Gnaw Bone and also over in Story.  SR135 runs through Nashville and on down through Story, and it's one of my favorite riding roads.

Thanks for the info everyone. This is a non-motorcycle mini-reunion. We have two every year, a big one in Pigeon Forge Tn and this one. She has brothers who live in Michigan and Memphis... so for this one we look for something between MI and TN... we switch off between Ohio and Indiana.
