I like the look of the P-Pad on the 800 Drifter but have some concerns. Has anyone else done this?
As the 800 Drifter rear is a swing arm and the rear fender is only attached by a few bolts, would the fender require some strengethening with some fender struts?
If it works would it be best to bolt directly to fender with rubber washers or use a P-Pad with suction cups? What sort of ride would a pillion passenger have?
Any thoughts and words of wisdom welcome.
Well my first question would be do you like the person that will be riding there?
That will be the most uncomfortable ride I can imagine, that fender is in constant motion, you need to have someone ride your 800 for you and for you to follow it and watch the fender move, I never understood when people said my tail light, and fender were in constant motion till one day I swapped bikes with my Brother in Law, now I understand. Anyone who has followed a 800 will understand.
Now to your question, That is the first 800 I have seen with a P-pad, I am sure the fender would require substantial strengthening to carry a person, Washersor springs would be my answer for that part, and as for the ride....lol.....on a smooth road and no bumps perhaps....but other wise hang on.....
That's what I thought. It looks good, but that's why you dont see anyone on the back of it...LoL
You know, that fender is rather thin plastic, and that's all! Not only is it in motion, I'd bet it's rated at holding less then 10 pounds of weight. I say that because the metal rack that bolts through the struts, directly to the frame on a 1500 is only rated at 10 pounds, though it'll likely hold a bit more. The struts on the rack are REAL beefy and solid metal, whereas the fender is just plastic.
Honestly, I can't think of a much more dangerous place to ride a Drifter then on the rear fender, never mind comfort. Riding on the handlebars would be safer!

If its just there for decoration... no problem. But it should never be actually used for a passenger.
Ya ....I was very surprised that it he has passenger floorboards, I really thought that the P-Pad was just for looks !?!?
