Title: Gas tank emblem question...................
Post by: Tecumseh on August 01, 2014, 23:08:47 PM
Does anyone know how it's attached to the tank? cause I'm planning to remove mine then would like to reattach it. Kinda' looks like it's attached with some sort of  double sided adhesive foam much like they use in modern cars, I dunno, I could be wrong. Any input out there???

Yes, that's right.  Having removed both of mine,  I can verify that.  Fishing line and a heat gun are a good idea. I used a heavy nylon thread, with multiple strands forming a "cable".

After you cut off the tape mounting, you will need something like prep-sol to remove the very tenacious remains...goo-gone just doesn't "cut" it....

I always use more then just one method to remove foam double side adhesive tape. You got to push trough and keep pulling. Apply solvent rather then accidentally dent the tank. Turpentine is a solvent that removes tar, grease and all sticky glue in minutes. Don't use it on spray paint and PVC. Turpentine causes disease and in particular organ failure when people make repeatedly skin contact. Professional painters found out the hard way. Close the bottle air tight and put it away safe. Good luck with the rest of the project.
