Thanks to everyone that responded to a post I made...it helped me to decide to get a 1500 instead of the 800.
I drove ~4 hrs (each way) to pick up this beautiful 2001 1500 Drifter with 4500 miles on it! The bike looks gorgeous. It's late and the pictures aren't the greatest so I'll take more in the following few days.
Again, thanks to everyone
Beautiful bike! Sounds like a great find.
good deal....
Great bike! Congrats!
Nice straight looking machine. Good find with the correct mounting hardware for the saddlebags with the rack. Factory windscreen and engine guard too. Good luck with it and welcome aboard.
WOW! Looks like mine! Congratulations on a great find!
That's a looker!
:( :o LOL
QuoteWOW! Looks like mine! Congratulations on a great find!
have you looked in the garage lately........
Congrats!! Sweet looking bike. That is my favorite (factory) color combo on Drifters. Let us know how it rides. And don't forget, we like pics of all mods!!
Must be a Canadian thing - I like that colour scheme too ;)
Just got back from a 75 mile ride, so I know it's not mine...
That was the color combo I was looking for when the wife found my bike. She talked me into all black.
That's a great looking Drifter, bambam. I've said it before, but I love a 2-tone Drifter!!!
Congrats on the bike! I remember driving 5 hours each way to get my bike too. Went with a friend who picked up a VN750. Makes for good memories ;)
Congrats on your new ride.
Congrats , and nice find with some hard to find accessories . Looks really clean and well maintained from were I sit .
Thanks for the compliments.
So far, it has been a great bike. Sometimes, I think I'm doing 40 and I look down and I'm doing 70! I love the way it rides and the power is incredible. I'll be cruising at 62-65 on the very long, steep incline on Rt 12 (Marcy, NY) and it will immediately and quickly accelerate when I hit the throttle. On top of that, I'm averaging 50-52 mpg!
I went and changed the oil and plugs and gutted the pipes (got one off of ebay for $75 ... don't want to touch stock parts) because my only complaint was it's too quiet. Have to admit, kind of disappointed in the 'Bike Shop mod' because I thought it was going to be louder (I took out all baffles but left the goat belly). I love the sound of the Vance and Hines but I like the looks of the stock pipe so much better. I'll probably wait till next season before I make up my mind.
I was considering the air intake mod but rationality keeps taping me in the head and saying 'why change something that runs so good?' but then, the kid in me says 'but what if you can make it faster!' LOL!
The only other thing I plan on doing is adding a couple spot lights since I've always loved the 3 light look.
Hopefully I'll be able to add pictures to a gallery soon when I get a break from everything else going on!

Glad to hear your enjoying the drifter , but really is no surprise ;) Once you ride or see one of these beauties is enough to hook anyone ;D . You say rt. 12 ? I know that route oh to well being a military member . Soooo this means we can add another drifter to the Ny list , not that I've seen any this year ??? Enjoy your rare bird and keep us updated with picture's , of course .
Beauty.. Yes whatever you paid for it was ok, If you are getting that mileage you obviously got an engine that was cared for...Don't know how old you are but a bike like that is a here on out keeper. Bought my '04 1500 new old stock in Durango Colorado in '07, I will never sell it..My butt is permantly attatched to it. Any other cruiser is a disappointment compared to the Drifter 1500.
Did caddmann last night. What an easy mod and the look is incredible. The pictures simply do not do it justice. I walked around the bike several times just admiring the new look. Can't wait to take it out over the weekend to see how it performs!
Looks great man! You'll have to let us all know how it works out.
That does look good.
Posted this comment in the "Bike died ... Cobra Fi2000 bad connection and bad battery" thread:
today was the 1st day riding after doing the Caddmann mod and Wow!, what an incredible improvement. The bike has never started so good and fast, I swear, the cruising speed increased by 10 mph's. I put on almost 200 miles today and the bike ran incredibly well, quicker and more power. I am so impressed with the difference that mod made. It almost feels like a different bike!
That mod and the V&H pipes (put on before the mod) makes an incredible difference! That's it for me as far as performance mods; I couldn't be happier with the results and how the bike runs.
That's great!
